389 DAYS LATER — WOUND HEALED AND PATIENT DISCHARGED
Diabetic patients are at high risk of amputation from severe foot wounds but she was saved from amputation from months of aggressive medical care.
Patient came to us with a large complicated surgical wound of the right foot with exposed bone and tendon after a failed surgical flap. Her treatment journey included serial debridements, wound VAC therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, treatment for MRSA infection, IV antibiotics, additional surgery, and Kerecis tissue grafting.
Despite multiple setbacks and even discussion of possible great toe amputation, the wound ultimately healed. On September 1, 2026, after 389 days from the beginning of her journey, she was discharged from wound care and able to ring the bell.
