Just a little preview of the podcast I was invited to participate in with one of my favorite colleagues, Suzanne Thai, DDS, DABDSM, DASBA, Founder of DFW Sleep Solutions and Beyond the Sleep Podcast. I was able to talk about various topics like Vitamins, Peptides, GLP-1 inhibitors and of course issues with sleep, while having fun with Dr Thai. To see more, go to You Tube and look up Beyond the Snore podcast with Dr Suzanne Thai.

PSA: Yes, we are phasing out of insurance as we are already done so. Please be informed that over the next 12 to 18 months as these changes occur. We do hope that you consider staying on as a patient for us to continue to provide you care as we do offer cash pay alternatives, including our my care membership plan and do take HSA plans as well. We feel that many people will find that not involving insurance will allow for more autonomy in their care and the options they have especially where healthcare premiums and deductibles are rising at an unprecedented pace. We apologize for the inconvenience, but do listen to my message as you will understand further as to why clinics like myself are phasing out of insurance to provide better care for our patients. Please reach out to our clinic for further information.

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, which mathematically measures how well a sunscreen shields the skin from ultraviolet B (UVB) raysโ€”the primary cause of sunburn and skin cancer.

The SPF number on a label does not indicate how many minutes you can safely spend in the sun. Instead, it describes a ratio of protection based on UV radiation exposure:
* The theoretical multiplier: If your unprotected skin normally begins to redden after 10 minutes of exposure, applying an SPF 30 sunscreen correctly means it would theoretically take 30 times longer (300 minutes) to burn. However, intensity variables like solar strength, time of day, and cloud cover mean this time-based multiplier is highly unreliable in real-world conditions.
* The percentage of rays blocked: A more reliable way to evaluate SPF is by looking at the percentage of UVB photons it filters out:
* SPF 15: Blocks 93% of UVB rays.
* SPF 30: Blocks 97% of UVB rays.
* SPF 50: Blocks 98% of UVB rays.
* SPF 100: Blocks 99% of UVB rays.
As the numbers increase, the curve flattens; an SPF 50 is not twice as protective as an SPF 25. It provides only about a 1% increase in protection over SPF 30

Be kind to your skin this summer and use sunscreen in addition to avoiding peak sunlight-10 am to 2 pm.

Know that we do sell medical grade sunscreen and other skincare products here. Ask our staff.
