Mattie Lou Fortberryman

Mattie Lou Fortberryman, age 69, of Crandall, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Mattie was born March 14, 1957, in Murray County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Virgil and Edna Mae Patterson. She was a lifelong resident of the Crandall community and a longtime member of Greater Abernathy Pentecostal Tabernacle.

Mattie was a woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: visiting with family, working in her flower beds, attending church, keeping up with the neighbors, and ordering things she absolutely did not need from the TikTok Shop. If Mattie saw a product advertised three times in one evening, she considered that sufficient research.

According to her family, Mattie’s final online purchase proved considerably less useful than advertised. After improperly using a product purchased through the TikTok Shop, Mattie suffered complications from which she did not recover. Her family wishes to remind everyone that phrases such as “viral,” “life-changing,” and “TikTok made me buy it” should never be considered substitutes for reading the directions.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Buford Fortberryman; her parents; one brother, Cecil Patterson of Cisco; and a sister, Wanda Sue Ledford of Chatsworth.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Dale Pritchett of Crandall and Tammy and Wesley Ridley of Chatsworth; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Darlene Fortberryman of Eton; sister, Betty Jean Cantrell of Dalton; grandchildren, Heather Pritchett, Cody Pritchett, Savannah Ridley, Tyler Fortberryman, and Makayla Fortberryman; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends throughout Murray County.

Funeral services for Mattie will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Greater Abernathy Pentecostal Tabernacle, with the Rev. Garland T. Pendergrass officiating.

Burial will follow in Crandall Cemetery, where Mattie will be laid to rest beside her husband, Buford.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Omar’s Funerals and Cremations and again Tuesday at the church beginning one hour prior to the service.

The Fortberryman family wishes to thank their friends, neighbors, and church family for the prayers, meals, telephone calls, and acts of kindness shown during this unexpected loss.

In Mattie’s memory, the family respectfully suggests that everyone read the instructions before using anything ordered from the internet.

Harold Eugene “Gene” Pritchett

Harold Eugene “Gene” Pritchett, age 74, of Eton, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026, following a brief illness.

Gene was born November 3, 1951, in Murray County, Georgia, the son of the late Walter Pritchett and Lucille Bagley Pritchett. A lifelong resident of the Eton area, Gene spent more than 35 years working in maintenance and equipment repair before retiring. He was known for being able to fix nearly anything, although family members admit that his repairs occasionally involved more duct tape than the manufacturer originally intended.

Gene enjoyed fishing, sitting on the porch watching traffic, attending local auctions, and keeping up with the business of Eton whether the business concerned him or not. He was particularly fond of old pickup trucks and believed firmly that no vehicle built after 1995 was worth what people were asking for it.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lloyd Pritchett; and his beloved wife of 46 years, Martha Sue Pritchett, who passed away in 2022.

Gene is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Carla Pritchett of Chatsworth; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Wayne Ledford of Eton; brother, Raymond Pritchett of Dalton; sister, Linda Faye Cooper of Crandall; grandchildren, Tyler Pritchett, Hannah Pritchett, Cody Ledford, and Megan Ledford; great-grandchildren, Braylee, Easton, and Waylon; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Omar’s Funerals and Cremations. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 noon Wednesday until the service hour.

Following the service, Gene will be cremated in accordance with his wishes.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, visits, food, and kindness during this difficult time.

Mr. Darnell Larcen, 28, of Eton, passed away Tuesday afternoon following what authorities described as “a series of increasingly poor decisions.”

Darnell entered this world with limitless potential and spent the next twenty-eight years making sure he never reached it.

Known throughout portions of North Georgia by a variety of colorful nicknames, Darnell enjoyed a lifestyle that included staying out late, avoiding legitimate employment whenever possible, and insisting every setback was “the system’s fault.”

Friends described him as “always hustling,” though few could ever explain exactly what his occupation was.

In what would become his final career move, Darnell allegedly attempted to rob the Baptist United Teachers Trust Credit Union while dressed in a purple Teletubby costume—a disguise investigators agreed was “certainly memorable.”

The plan unraveled shortly thereafter during a police pursuit ending near Dalton’s industrial district.

Authorities noted that, despite extensive planning, the disguise offered little tactical advantage.

Darnell was preceded in death by several smartphones, two Nissan Altimas, one Dodge Charger, countless pairs of designer sneakers purchased on credit, and any possibility of making the evening news for a positive reason.

He is survived by:

His bewildered mother.
Three cousins who insist he was “about to change his life.”
A probation officer now enjoying a considerably lighter caseload.
Numerous friends currently posting “Fly High” despite having owed him money.

Services will be private.

Guests are respectfully asked not to arrive wearing mascot costumes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made toward teaching future generations that disguises are not substitutes for good judgment.

The family offers special thanks to everyone who repeatedly told Darnell to “quit doing dumb stuff.”

Regrettably, those recommendations went unheeded.

Mildred Louise “Millie” Wofford

September 18, 1957 – July 7, 2026

Mrs. Mildred Louise “Millie” Wofford, 68, of Eton, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, following a sudden medical emergency believed to have been caused by heat exhaustion while washing her beloved collection of lawn ornaments in the summer sun. Though her passing was unexpected, her family finds peace in knowing she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior.

Born in Murray County to the late James Franklin and Dorothy Mae Baggett, Millie spent her entire life in the Eton community, where she became known for her sharp wit, unmistakable personality, and generous heart. She never hesitated to tell you exactly what was on her mind, but she was equally quick to help a friend, cook a meal for a neighbor, or offer encouragement to someone having a difficult day.

Millie retired after more than 30 years in the textile industry before devoting her time to her family, tending her flower beds, watching crime shows, hunting bargains at yard sales, and lovingly caring for the many lawn ornaments that decorated her yard and brought her endless joy.

She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, where she enjoyed worship services, church dinners, gospel singing, and fellowship with her church family. Her steadfast faith guided every season of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Harold Dean Wofford; her parents, James Franklin and Dorothy Mae Baggett; her brother, Jimmy Baggett; and a beloved grandson, Tyler Wofford.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children:

* Lisa and Michael Patterson of Chatsworth
* Randy and Melissa Wofford of Eton
* Jennifer and Chris Holloway of Dalton

She also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren; her sisters, Brenda Gentry of Crandall and Patricia Coker of Cisco; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and her beloved family at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Omar’s Funerals and Cremations.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Omar’s Funerals and Cremations with Rev. Eddie Black and Rev. Michael Jones officiating.

Interment will follow at Eton Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

The family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to the building fund of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church.

Billy Ray "Bubba" Hensley, 47, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia

Billy Ray "Bubba" Hensley, 47, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, departed this earthly realm sometime between his last cigarette and his next bad decision on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Born in Dalton, Georgia, Bubba spent most of his life in and around Tunnel Hill, where he was widely known, occasionally sought after, and frequently discussed at the local convenience store. A man of strong opinions, questionable judgment, and unwavering confidence, Bubba never met a yard sale, flea market, or unattended piece of equipment that failed to spark his curiosity.

Bubba worked a variety of jobs throughout his life, including mechanic, scrap collector, roofer, lawn mower repairman, and self-proclaimed "entrepreneur." He possessed an uncanny ability to turn a ten-minute errand into a three-day adventure involving at least two tow trucks and a deputy sheriff.

While Billy Ray faced many struggles in life, including a long battle with methamphetamine addiction, those who knew him best will remember his infectious laugh, willingness to help a neighbor when he was able, and remarkable talent for talking his way into situations and occasionally out of them. Though his past included several encounters with the criminal justice system involving theft and other poor choices, his family hopes he will be remembered for the better parts of his story and the lessons learned along the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Dean Hensley and Wanda Faye Hensley; his brother, Ricky Hensley; and an assortment of pickup trucks that never quite made it home.

Left to cherish his memory are his former wife, Tammy Hensley of Dalton; his children, Brittany Hensley of Ringgold and Cody Hensley of Tunnel Hill; his granddaughter, Paisley Grace Hensley; his sister, Brenda Puckett of Rocky Face; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former friends, and several people who are still unsure whether he owed them money or vice versa.

The family would like to thank everyone who showed Billy Ray kindness throughout his life and those who never gave up hope that he would find his way.

At Billy Ray's request, no services are scheduled at this time. Family and friends are encouraged to remember him in their own way, preferably while making better decisions than he did.

Vincenzo “Vinny” Salvatore Bellacaro, age 68, of Dalton, Georgia, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, passed away quietly… though nothing about the man himself was ever particularly quiet.

Born and raised in Chicago, Vinny brought with him more than just recipes when he relocated south—he brought a certain way of doing things. As the longtime owner of Bellacaro’s Italian Ristorante, he built a place where the marinara simmered low, the lights stayed dim, and conversations in the back booths carried a little more weight than the menu suggested.

If you walked through his doors, there was one guarantee: no matter your name, your title, or your business, you were “Tony.” Judges, plumbers, preachers, strangers off the street—didn’t matter. You were Tony. And somehow, that made you feel like you belonged… or at least like you should mind your manners.

Vinny was known for his generosity, his loyalty, and his uncanny ability to “know a guy” for just about anything. Over the years, there were… stories. Nothing ever written down, of course. Just quiet nods, knowing looks, and the occasional comment about his “friends back home.” Vinny never confirmed such things. He would simply smile, pour another glass of red, and change the subject.

He is survived by his daughter, Gianna Bellacaro, and his son, Marco Bellacaro, along with six grandchildren who were, by all accounts, the only people he didn’t call “Tony.”

Vinny was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Lucia “Lucy” Bellacaro, who, according to those closest to him, was the only person who ever told him “no”… and lived to talk about it.

He is also remembered by a wide circle of friends, associates, and individuals who preferred not to be listed but will undoubtedly be in attendance.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Omar’s Funerals and Cremations in Dalton.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Saint Anne Heiser’s Catholic Church, with a Rosary beginning at 10:30 AM.

Burial will follow on Monday at 1:00 PM (Central Time) at Saint Anthony’s Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois—bringing Vinny back to where it all started.

Arrangements are entrusted to Omar’s Funerals and Cremations, where, as always, it’s what’s in your heart that matters… not what’s in your wallet.
