Rowe Technical Design, Inc. Optical Instrument Design, Purveyor of Model Eyes and Tissue Phantoms

I launched Rowe Technical Design in 2005 to solve my client's technical and business challenges by developing and delivering highly appreciated advice, technical solutions, unique products and occasionally entirely new enterprises. Most of my work involves optical or optomechanical engineering as a core element, with many of my clientele being focused in the medical device sector. Examples in the

ophthalmic space include OCT, macular pigment measurement, laser photocoagulators, femtosecond laser systems, fundus camera and wavefront aberrometers. Endocrinology devices include both invasive and non-invasive blood glucose measurement systems. I have recently launched my own product line of tissue phantoms and eye models, devices that mimic tissue properties mainly for diagnostic imaging applications.

Rowe Technical Design, Inc. announces that Whole Model Eye for OCT (Tissue Phantom) is now in production!
Dana Point, CA. Rowe Technical Design, Inc. (RTD), developers of the 1st commercial optical tissue phantom for OCT, announces that their latest version of the Whole Model Eye complete with Cornea, Crystalline Lens and Retina tissue phantoms for OCT has now been released for full serial production. “We’re excited because this is our third serial production model eye, following up on the very successful anterior chamber and OCT model eyes with retina tissue phantom” notes T. Scott Rowe, company founder and president. “We are extremely pleased with the customer feedback so far, and we are ready for serial production. This is the most complete model eye we have ever produced!” The Whole Model Eye incorporates an anatomically accurate cornea with 500 um central corneal thickness, a 3 mm deep anterior chamber and realistic iris that transitions into a 3.8 mm thick crystalline lens. The eye is complete with a 4.8 mm diameter 6 layer retina, with a total axial length of 25.8 mm. Rowe also points out the ever increasing array of uses for the device: ”This is not just a laboratory tool, perfect for use with swept source OCT instruments, although we do have a good number of labs who are using these on a regular basis” he notes, “we also have clinicians purchasing these for OCT technician training, sales and marketing personnel have picked these up for use in trade shows, and companies are using these for OCT development and repair”. This device, as are all RTD model eyes, is protected by US Patent #8,480,230 “Phantom for Rendering Biological Tissue Regions”.

Rowe Technical Design, Inc. announces that Tissue Phantom US Patent 8,480,230 has issued and the Anterior Chamber Model Eye for OCT is now in production!
Dana Point, CA. Rowe Technical Design (RTD), developers of the 1st commercial optical tissue phantom for OCT has announced that their latest version of the Anterior Chamber model eye with cornea tissue phantom for OCT has now been released for full serial production. “We’re excited because this is our second serial production model eye, following up on the very successful model eye with retina tissue phantom” notes T. Scott Rowe, company founder and president. “We are extremely pleased with the customer feedback so far, ready for successful volume manufacturing. This is the most realistic cornea we have ever produced!” The AC OCT model eye incorporates an 11.5 mm diameter cornea with 500 um central corneal thickness, anatomically accurate anterior and posterior curvatures, and a 3 mm deep anterior chamber that ends with 4 mm diameter pupil iris plane. The cornea is flexible, and perfect for docking with femtosecond cataract and LASIK resectioning lasers. Rowe also points out the ever increasing array of uses for the device…”This is not just a laboratory tool, although we do have a good number of labs who are using these on a regular basis” he notes, “we also have clinicians purchasing these for OCT technician training, sales and marketing personnel have picked these up for use in trade shows, and companies are using these for OCT development and repair”. Simultaneously, RTD announces the issuance of US Patent #8,480,230 “Phantom for Rendering Biological Tissue Regions”. This is the first tissue phantom patent issued for OCT, covering fundamental design elements and principles used in both the retinal and anterior chamber model eyes.
