When Post-TAVR Monitoring Becomes More Than a Test
A de-identified real-world case showing what can happen when live ECG data, rapid response, physician
judgment, and patient support all work together.
This is what real-time Post-TAVR monitoring is supposed to do.
A recent Post-TAVR patient began with a documented post-procedure baseline of normal sinus rhythm at 65
bpm. Over the following days, the picture changed. The monitor captured 3rd-degree AV block, 2nd-degree
AV block type 2 with rates falling into the low 30s, ventricular tachycardia, a significant pause, and a minimum
heart rate of 28 bpm.
But detection is only part of the story. In six critical-alert examples from this case, our alert-to-call response
times ranged from 1 to 7 minutes, with an average of 3 minutes and a median of 2 minutes. Earlier alerts
were reviewed by the treating physician, who elected to continue monitoring based on the patient's clinical
status at those times. Later, the physician directed hospital evaluation.
That same evening, a damaged charging connection threatened the monitoring phone. Our team contacted
the patient, texted charging instructions and photos, worked directly with her son to restore charging,
communicated with the physician, relayed the physician's hospital instructions, and confirmed that live ECG
readings were still being received.
The patient ultimately received a pacemaker. The end-of-study report was completed within hours of the test
ending.
