Dr. Bill Balanoff spent more than four decades asking a question that most dental educators never thought to ask.
Why are we teaching this, and does the student actually understand how it connects to everything else?
That question defined his frustration as a student. It shaped his entire career as a clinician, a researcher, an educator, and a policy advocate.
He testified before the United States Congress on Veterans Affairs oral health policy. He shaped public health initiatives across the United States, Russia, Japan, Spain, and England. He appeared on CBS for research that reached well beyond the boundaries of traditional dental practice.
He came to IDI because he has spent his entire career building toward a program that finally answers the question he has been asking since 1983.
