The Supported Living Group is proud to support our partners at Ga***rd Specialty Healthcare for the annual Ga***rd Gauntlet taking place on June 13th in Wallingford.

This incredible event brings together athletes, supporters, community partners, and advocates in celebration of adaptive sports, determination, resilience, and inclusion. We are especially excited that SLG's Executive Director, Jamie Arber, will be participating in this year's Gauntlet alongside many others who are helping to raise awareness and support for individuals overcoming physical and neurological challenges.

We are grateful for Ga***rd's continued leadership in advancing rehabilitation, adaptive sports, and opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their fullest potential.

We hope to see many members of Connecticut's brain injury and disability communities there!

This article, featuring neurologist Orlando Swayne, offers an important perspective on brain injury recovery and challenges some of the long-held assumptions surrounding what is possible after a stroke or traumatic brain injury. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2026/jun/03/orlando-swayne-neurologist-stroke-head-injury-recovery-doctor-interview

One of the themes that resonated with us most is the recognition that the brain remains capable of change and adaptation long after an injury occurs. While recovery is different for every individual, growing evidence around neuroplasticity continues to demonstrate that progress can occur well beyond the timelines many people have traditionally been given.

At The Supported Living Group, we have the privilege of seeing this firsthand. Whether it is someone returning to work, rebuilding social connections, learning new skills, pursuing creative interests, or achieving goals that once seemed out of reach, recovery often continues in ways that extend far beyond clinical settings.

We appreciate articles like this that help broaden the conversation about brain injury recovery and highlight the importance of maintaining hope, opportunity, and meaningful engagement throughout a person's journey.

A worthwhile read for anyone connected to the brain injury community.

The neurologist Orlando Swayne doesn’t suggest everyone can recover. But he does argue that early, targeted and intense therapy can sometimes bring about life-changing improvements – and we have a moral obligation to provide it

🎉 We’re honored to share that The Supported Living Group was recently featured on NBC Connecticut’s CT Live! 🎉

For nearly 20 years, SLG has remained committed to providing Connecticut’s most innovative and person-focused community-based brain injury support services. Being recognized by CT Live is a tremendous opportunity to highlight the incredible resilience of the individuals we support and the dedicated professionals who make our mission possible every day.

As Connecticut’s leading provider of non-medical Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) support services, we believe that rehabilitation extends far beyond traditional clinical settings. Through individualized support, community integration, vocational development, creative arts programming, independent living skills training, and family-centered approaches, we help brain injury survivors build meaningful, fulfilling lives within their communities.

This recognition belongs to our participants, families, referral partners, care teams, and staff whose passion and dedication continue to set the standard for excellence in brain injury support across Connecticut.

A special thank you to NBC Connecticut and the CT Live team for helping us raise awareness about the importance of community-based brain injury rehabilitation and the life-changing impact it can have on survivors and their families.

We’re excited to share a series of video clips from our 20 Years of Services Celebration held at Lyman Orchards—an incredible day reflecting on how far we’ve come and the people who have made it all possible.

Over the past two decades, The Supported Living Group has grown into one of Connecticut’s largest and most recognized ABI Waiver provider agencies, supporting individuals across the lifespan in their journeys toward greater independence. With established program and administrative offices in Danielson, Avon, and Bethany, we are proud to provide community-based, non-medical supports to individuals and families across CT navigating brain injury (ABI Waiver services), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD Waiver supports), eldercare needs, and private pay services.

What began as a vision for person-centered community support has grown into an organization that many now look to as a leader in the field. We are immensely proud to have become an agency that sets the bar for quality, innovation, and compassionate care in Connecticut. We remain deeply committed to upholding these principles for the next 20 years and beyond, as we continue to support individuals on their unique paths toward independence, dignity, and meaningful community life.

Thank you to our staff, individuals, families, and community partners who have been part of this journey.

This past week, The Supported Living Group proudly celebrated 20 years of service at the beautiful Lyman Orchards alongside the incredible people who make our mission possible each and every day.

Our anniversary celebration and awards ceremony provided a meaningful opportunity for our Founder and President, Christopher Brisson, and Vice President, Kimberly Brisson, to recognize and celebrate the dedication, compassion, and hard work of SLG’s management team, administrative professionals, and direct support staff who continue to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families across Connecticut.

For the past two decades, SLG’s healthcare heroes have come together every day with one shared purpose — supporting each individual who chooses SLG as their community-based provider agency with dignity, respect, creativity, and person-centered care. From brain injury supports and autism services to employment supports, homecare, waiver programming, and community integration services, our team remains deeply committed to helping individuals live fuller and more independent lives within their communities.

We are incredibly grateful for the commitment of our staff, the trust of the individuals and families we support, and the partnerships we have built throughout Connecticut over the past 20 years. Here’s to continuing to grow, innovate, and support our communities together for many years to come.

This year marks a major milestone for us at Supported Living Group—20 years of providing community-based support services to individuals and families across Connecticut.

For two decades, SLG has remained grounded in a simple but powerful mission: helping people live with greater independence, dignity, and connection in their own communities. What began as a commitment to person-centered support has grown into a broad continuum of services designed to meet individuals across the lifespan.

Today, SLG proudly delivers a range of specialized supports throughout Connecticut, including:

Brain Injury (ABI/TBI) community-based rehabilitation and daily living supports
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) services focused on skill development, independence, and community integration
Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS) employment-based supports focused on vocational exploration, job readiness, and competitive integrated employment outcomes
PCA Waiver services supporting individuals with activities of daily living in home and community settings
Money Follows the Person (MFP) program supports assisting individuals transitioning from institutional settings back into the community
Community Homecare Services for Elders, promoting safety, independence, and quality of life at home
Private Pay supports offering flexible, individualized care solutions for families outside of waiver programming

Across every program, our focus remains consistent—supporting individuals in building meaningful daily routines, increasing independence, strengthening community participation, and improving overall quality of life.

As we celebrate 20 years of service, we extend our deepest gratitude to the individuals, families, staff, and community partners who have trusted us along the way. Your partnership continues to shape our growth and our commitment to excellence.

Another wonderful community outing for individuals supported by The Supported Living Group's Inspire Arts program this weekend, as we attended ActUp Theater’s production of Matilda: The Hip-Hop Musical Remix in Hartford! 🎭✨

Experiences like these highlight the incredible importance of community theater, creative expression, and the arts in bringing people together, inspiring imagination, and promoting meaningful community integration opportunities for the individuals we support through our brain injury and neurodivergent programming.

A huge thank you to ActUp Theater for continuing to create inclusive and engaging artistic experiences within our community. We are already looking forward to Frozen this December! ❄️🎶

Participants in our Inspire Arts CT program planted this year’s Avon community garden with tomatoes, peppers, and something new for the season — sunflowers, which have already begun to sprout! 🌻🍅🫑

Through horticultural therapy and hands-on skill development opportunities, individuals associated with Connecticut’s ABI Waiver program and SLG are able to experience the therapeutic benefits of gardening while building routines, social connections, confidence, and meaningful community engagement.

Programs like Inspire Arts help demonstrate how recovery following a brain injury extends far beyond traditional supports. Spending time outdoors, nurturing living things, and working collaboratively within a community garden environment can promote emotional wellness, cognitive engagement, creativity, and independence.

We are excited to spend more time outdoors this season and share in the joy of watching our garden — and the individuals we support — continue to grow together. 💚

Access to nature, recreation, and community experiences should not end following a brain injury or mobility challenge. 🌲💚

We were excited to read about Connecticut’s continued investment in all-terrain wheelchairs across State Parks, helping individuals with mobility limitations safely explore trails, outdoor spaces, and natural environments throughout our state. Programs like this create meaningful opportunities for inclusion, independence, and quality of life. https://ctmirror.org/2026/05/11/ct-all-terrain-wheelchairs-state-parks/

At The Supported Living Group, we strongly believe that recovery and rehabilitation extend far beyond traditional clinical and agency settings. Access to nature, recreation, creative exploration, and community engagement can play an important role in emotional wellness, confidence building, social connection, and overall life satisfaction for brain injury survivors.

We remain committed to helping the individuals we support explore meaningful recreational opportunities throughout Connecticut while advocating for continued investment in accessible and inclusive community initiatives such as these.

Projects that remove barriers and expand access matter because everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the outdoors and participate fully in community life. 🌿

Connecticut has 14 of the vehicles, designed for people with mobility limitations who want to explore nature.
