1st place Snooker level 1
2nd place Standard level 1 AND CPE Standard 1 Title
1st place Wildcard level 2

Mr Smiles, Monty The Therapy Dog , got his very first qualification in AKC FAST agility (FAST stands for Fifteen and Send Time)

For a Q he needed 30 points plus the 20 point send bonus for a total of 50 points in under 38 seconds.

Today we completed 73 points under 38 seconds!!! First place !

Standard and Jumpers With Weaves coming up later this afternoon. Fingers crossed for a QQQ today.

I cannot thank enough, Alison Kay Brown at Great Companions, LLC for the training and encouragement! She pushes us in class to do master level exercises so when we go to trial at novice and open levels it’s so easy!

What matters most though? Look at how happy Monty is! He’s a short, stout little Scottie Dog and he don’t care. He loves agility!

Day two:

Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York,Inc agility trial.

Since Monty got his novice title yesterday we bumped him up to Open today. He did so well! Very first time in Open Standard agility with 12 weave poles. He had 4 second tine fault but otherwise a clean run and a Qualifying score!
Also was another first place for him! We are so very proud of him.

We botched Jumpers class again but we are still over the moon proud of his accomplishments this weekend! With many many thanks to our teacher, Alison Kay Brown at Great Companions, LLC

He is literally crashed again lol poor tired happy pup.

Day 1 was good. The facility is beautiful! Monty got a qualifying score and first place in Standard novice and now got his AKC Agility Novice title!

Jumpers with Weaves was Monty’s best run of the day however, mom, Tracy Gasdik Krapf, had a mild brain fart and sent him over the wrong jump so he did not get a qualification 😢 (she’s still kicking dirt over this because he would have qualified for the special Scottie club ribbon)

He is super tired but got a good dinner and a chicken nuggie for a treat.

We will try again tomorrow 🙏🏻

After spending Thursday, greeting passengers and staff at ABE airport, Monty is off on another adventure.

Monty and Family are traveling to Connecticut for the Scottish terrier club of New York Agility trial.

Mr Monty tried something new and did pretty well…. North American Sport Dog Association, or NASDA for short, is a different way to show a dog’s versatility.

Monty was entered in Trail & Locate and Urban which are similar to Barn Hunt but in a more natural setting to mimic a true “hunt”. Rats are safely tucked in quarry boxes so no harm comes to them. (See photo reference)

Trail & Locate was in three places (or 3 separate trials). The first was a dense wooded area and Monty had to follow a scent trail to the rat quarry box. He did it in 22.06 seconds and really had a good time searching! The other two locations were in high grass and brush. He hopped around like a bunny lol. He actually jumped right out of his field harness lol. He was definitely picking up a scent trail and came within a foot of “finding” but missed the time constraints (2 mins) His last search area he seemed confused but was still scenting the area and missed a qualifying score on that one too. He managed one qualifying score of 25 plus 1 point for 4th place (26 points total)

In Urban Locate the “quarry” are hidden indoors among every day objects. This was at a horse farm so buckets of manure and shovels as well as boots, boxes etc. Monty did very well in Urban earning a qualification in all three trials.

Scoring is different in NASDA. They start with 25 points, get deductions for things like tight leash, handler errors etc. if they “place” among other contestants based on speed in finding the quarry, they get bonus points. The goal is to earn a set number of points to earn a title.

In Urban Monty had:
Round 1: 25 points plus 1 extra point for 4th place (total 26 points)

Round 2 : 25 points plus 5 points for 3rd place (30 points total)

Round 3: 23 points (2 point deduction for tight leash) plus 5 points for 3rd place (28 points total)

So in Urban he earned 84 points combined. He needs 100 points for level 1 title! So close!

I can’t thank you enough for all your help as well as the people in your club who were so welcoming and helpful in our learning process.
