A fantastic 6 week summer of growth for 100's of campers. A great staff of therapists, led by Erin Meyer, LMFT and Bob Field, PhD included Asst. Director Gianna Scolini. AMFT, Sal Maciel, AMFT, Sarah Kaminsky, MA and Phil Coney, PsyD graduate student. The amazing staff of graduate students from CSUEB, college graduates and undergrads provided the direct care to make substantial progress this summer.
Join us in Septemer at the Afterschool program directed by Gianna Scolini, Director, and Sal Maciel with Bob Field, PhD helping out. Research has shown that the Afterschool program is effective at combating the stress from school's social and academic demands.

Common issues associated with ADHD:
1. Poor auditory sequential memory: Even with medication, most kids still have difficulty remembering a series of directions. This is an area that requires accommodations with access to written directions at the desk and frequent check ins with teachers.
2. Social cues: A major area that impacts many kids, often first observed in the later elementary school, impacts their ability to understand nonverbal social cues. This impacts acceptance and understanding of more complex relationships.
3. Written expression: Writing our thoughts is one of the more complex neurological tasks, combining verbal reasoning, fine motor skills and recall of one’s thoughts all at the same time.
4. Maintaining focus with the big picture: Focus issues can limit one’s ability to understand the bigger picture whether in a soccer game or problem solving more complex problems.

While there are other significant issues, these have been most impactful. Learning how to manage these and learn the skills required takes a structure environment with trained helping hands. Quest has demonstrated its’ ability to positively impact these issues and teach the skills necessary for success.

In three studies, Quest was found to have a strong treatment effect improving ADHD symptoms.

Have you seen your kids preoccupied with gaming, videos and other electronics, not wanting friends over and developing the basic social skills like eye contact and smiling at others? They’re losing emotional and social development. Kids prefer their screens instead of conversation and the farther their development lags, the farther behind they get. The difference between successful adults and those who do not achieve their potential is the emotional and social skills they possess. Building these skills requires a structured approach by parents, schools and recreational facilities. Quest is part of the solution.

Don't lecture your kids! It doesn't work even though it may make you feel better. Especially with boys, little is absorbed or understood without an actual learning experience. Helping break down behavior to understand what occurred, why it occurred and what was the result are helpful questions. Asking what could be done instead can sometimes generate a better solution but if no response is given, provide various alternatives to teach decision making.

Camp director, Erin Meyer, LMFT along with Assistant Director Gianna Scolini AMFT and therapists Charlie Crockett AMFT, Sal Maciel AMFT, Dino Tenorio MA and Lauren Waitrovich LMFT provide strong support and direction to our therapy team.
Gianna and Sal will lead the Afterschool program on TUESDAYS in Alamo and THURSDAYS in Oakland.
