If you've thought about starting a career as an EMT, this is a GREAT opportunity presented by our sister organization, the Danville Area Training Center! This class is designed for working adults, and will be held two evenings a week.

The Danville Area Training Center (DATC), at 630 Randolph Street in Danville, has opened the application process for Rescue Academy #9. By the end of the academy, students will obtain certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Emergency Vehicle Operations Class, Traffic Incident Management Class, Mass Casualty I&II, Vehicle Rescue Awareness & Operations, and Emergency Medical Technician. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Class times will be 6:00pm - 9:00pm. There will be one weekend class for EVOC. Afterwards, graduates will be able to work or volunteer at any EMS agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia with completed certifications. The next Rescue Academy will begin September 22nd. A tuition of $750, which includes the EMT book, EMT workbook, uniform, CPR, online EMS software, and drug screening, will be due by the seventh class. There is a required interview as part of the application process.

The application can be downloaded from our webpage at https://www.datc.training/rescue-academy

We are again partnering with Danville Community College to offer resources that can assist students with class costs. This will be explained in more detail during pre-class interviews.

Applications close on August 23rd. For more information, contact our business office at 434-792-1871 or email Brian Alderson at [email protected].

What a fun visit with the campers at Sacred Heart!

EMTs Courtney and Alice brought along some of our equipment—including a stretcher, pulse oximeter, blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes—and let the campers try it all out for themselves!

We love opportunities like this because children get to meet our EMTs, explore the equipment and learn that we’re friendly helpers—all during a happy, non-scary experience.

Sacred Heart even sent us home with some homemade cookies and snacks in a box decorated to look like one of our orange-and-white ambulances. Naturally, such precious cargo had to be properly secured for transport. Stretcher straps fastened, cookies safely delivered.

Thank you, Sacred Heart, for inviting us! Courtney and Alice had the best time with your campers—and we’re pleased to report that the cookies arrived safely at their final destination.

Yesterday was Paramedics Day-- and we missed it!
In our defense, the paramedics were probably busy being paramedics. That's exactly what they do, one emergency at a time.

But we are not definitely not letting the day pass without saying how incredibly grateful we are for the men and women who do this work.

Becoming a paramedic takes an extraordinary commitment to education and training—and the learning never really stops. Long after the classes, clinical hours and exams are finished, paramedics keep studying, training, practicing skills and keeping up with new protocols, treatments and technology.

They assess. They adapt. They make critical decisions in unpredictable situations, often when seconds matter.

And somehow, in the middle of all of that, they also reassure frightened patients, explain what is happening to worried families, stay calm in chaos and show compassion on some of the hardest days of people’s lives.

To the paramedics of the Danville Life Saving Crew—and paramedics everywhere—thank you for the countless hours you have spent learning how to care for others and for the skill, dedication and compassion you bring to that work every day.

A few of our paramedics are pictured here, but this is by no means all of them. To EVERY Paramedic member of our Crew, (including the ones who have another skill: avoiding the camera!) we are so grateful for you.
