at making the decision to receive counseling is not an easy one and you may have even contemplated doing so for months. Nothing is more important than building a trusting relationship. It is the intention of Howerton Counseling, to ensure your confidence in a safe environment where confidentiality is paramount. The purpose of counseling is to improve quality of life, as well as address more immediate goals such as decrease depressive symptom, decrease anxiety, develop healthy relationships, cope with trauma, change behavior or decrease/end addictive behavior, and so forth. The modality of treatment depends on the needs of the individual. Therefore, an eclectic approach may include, but not limited to :
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT, which is a short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people's difficulties, and so change the way they feel. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can be described as modified CBT, which goals focus on teaching people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. Behavioral Therapy seeks to identify and help change potentially self-destructive or unhealthy behaviors. It functions on the idea that all behaviors are learned and that unhealthy behaviors can be changed.
