Paula R. Hashman
DANVILLE – Paula R. Hashman, 81 passed away in her home on July 10th, 2026 with her daughter by her side.
She was born January 23, 1945 in Gothenburg, Nebraska. Once she realized that her birthday was “1-23-45” she simply loved any time someone had to ask her what it was! Her parents were Floyd and Marjorie Lindekugel and they eventually moved to California during her teen years.
Paula’s adult life started out west, with a long career in turkey hatcheries and farms. Paula was an extraordinary secretary and impeccable organizer and record keeper. Her family has a memory of her typing so fast that the telefax nor the “new at the time” electric typewriters could not keep up. It was quite amazing to witness.
Paula worked at various turkey businesses but her time at Cuddy Farms in McArthur and Danville rounded out her over 30 years in the turkey business. Paula almost always kept multiple jobs. She was a hard worker and proud of it. The jobs she found that she enjoyed most was the restaurants she worked at, namely Mellors restaurant in Loudonville. She loved all her customers and was still talking about her days working there into her last days. She had many nicknames but dingbat and vera stuck for a long time as she was so happy and silly all of the time and many related her to the role of Vera on the tv show Alice.
Paula was preceded in death by her husband and absolute love of her life in December, 2021. They got married in 1986 and were always so very happy and almost always together. They worked together at times at gravel pits etc. but what they enjoyed the most was traveling out west to visit family, setting up at flea markets, going out to the gun range at elite preparedness and simply going from place to place and state to state enjoying each other any everyone they met. They never knew a stranger.
Paula was a hoot! She never met up with friends without having a new joke to tell for the day. She absolutely loved doing that.
Paula was a member of the Eastern Stars and always enjoyed doing things with the other women and attending Grotto and Shriners dinners.
Paula loved her husband and family and of course her cat Tillie above all else.
If you knew Paula, you loved her. Her laugh, her smile, her generosity and her love of life. She and Larry had so many stories. So many that they were never without one to tell. Those will be greatly missed. You also knew her as the gadget queen!! She loved her gadgets and loved to show her latest find to anyone and everyone, but mostly her grandchildren.
Paula is survived by her children, Trisha Sands and Jim (Bunky) Sands; step-son, Larry L. (Shanon) Hashman II; grandchildren, Amber Woltz (Adam Sprague), Joshua Williams, Stephanie Williams (Josh Osborne) Skylar Sands, Paige Hashman, and Carlie (Cody) Chapman; as well as 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, JoAnn Lunsford; and brother, Jim (Shelly) Lindekugel; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends Reuben Weaver and his family. Paula is also survived by her bonus son, Ed and his wife Phyliss Stivers (along with their grandkids who Paula called her little rugrats); and John and Kay Frazee who all helped her daughter care for her during her illness to allow her the ability to remain in her home with her precious Tillie until her last breath.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry L. Hashman Sr.; brother-in-law, Tom Lunsford; nephew, Timmy Lindekugel; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Paula spent the last almost 5 years missing her husband terribly and now they can finally be together again.
There will be a graveside service at later date, yet to be determined by her cat Tillie.
Paula's wishes were that friends and family make a donation in her memory to one of the following. Both were very close to her heart: Shepherds’ House, P.O, Box 550 McArthur, Ohio 45651 (which is a domestic violence shelter where her daughter is the director); or to the Glenmont Church of Christ, P.O. Box 387 Glenmont, Ohio 44628, where her amazing friend Ed Stivers is the Minister.
