Bro. Bob Kiper

May 19, 1940 - July 27, 2026

Brother Robert “Bob” Lewis Kiper, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on July 27, 2026, at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Janet. Bob was born in Leitchfield, Kentucky, on May 19, 1940, to the late Ernest and Mable Oller Kiper.

Brother Bob wore many hats throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, faithful pastor, and cherished friend.

Raised as a farm boy, he proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years and two months during the Vietnam War, decoding enemy messages. He later graduated from college and seminary and faithfully pastored churches in Kentucky and Ohio.

Bob also owned an upholstery business before partnering with his son, Philip, to found PBS Logistics Inc. Through his faith, service, and hard work, Brother Bob left a legacy of love, integrity, and dedication that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Along with his wife, Bob was also survived by two sons, Stephen Kiper (Lisa) of Mason, Ohio, and Philip Kiper of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Brody Kiper, Eva Kiper, Ellie Kiper, Brock Kiper, Andrew Kiper, and Grady Kiper; and a great-grandchild, Brynlee.

Funeral service will be 11:30 AM on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Hedgeville Baptist Church with brother Jonathan Grizzell officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the time of service.

Pallbearers will be Philip Kiper, Grady Kiper, Jimmy Lair, Brian Lair, Noah Lair and Andrew Kiper

Honorary pallbearers are Mike Preston and Rodney Edds.

Katherine Sowder

May 7, 1930 - July 26, 2026

Katherine Sowder, 96, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Born in Madison County, Kentucky, Katherine was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Richardson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Sowder, and her son, Mark Sowder.

Katherine had a strong work ethic throughout her life, working at Cowdens, National Casket Company, and Palm Beach. She also enjoyed a career as a beautician, where she loved serving others.

A faithful member of Lancaster Baptist Church, Katherine treasured attending Sunday School, worshiping with her church family, and enjoying fellowship with friends. Above all, she loved her family dearly and took great pride in each of their accomplishments.

She is survived by her son, David Sowder (Susan) of Lancaster; her brother, Harry Richardson Jr. of Florida; and her sister, Shelby Silvers of California. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lesley Newcomb, Scott Sowder (Martina), and Ambur Sowder, all of Lancaster, as well as her great-grandchildren, Braxton Sowder, Trevor Jones, Scarlett Doan, Phoenix Newcomb, Brantley Sowder, Austin Claire Lalonde, and Eleanor Parker Lalonde.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son, Katherine was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Richardson, and her sisters, Barbara Morris, Alberta Gannon, and Josephine Vance.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Benita Lynn Harper Custard

November 28, 1962 - July 18, 2026

Benita Lynn Harper Custard, 63, of Mercer County, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on July 18, 2026, in Danville. She was born on November 28, 1962, in Stanford, Kentucky, and was lovingly raised by her late grandparents, George Sr. and Othello Brown. She was the beloved wife of Dennis Allen Custard.

Benita was a dedicated Senior Administrative Assistant at Trailblazer Academy for many years. She was also a faithful member of 1st Baptist Church Davistown, where she faithfully served in many capacities, including Children's Church leader, Annual Missionary Tea, and a member of the kitchen ministry. She loved the Lord wholeheartedly and found great joy in serving her church family.

Benita cherished family gatherings and celebrations, always making sure there was plenty of food and take home trays, laughter, and love for everyone. She was also a treasured member of the Spurlin Funeral Home family, where she compassionately served countless families during their times of loss. She enjoyed yard sales, playing Pick 3, Black Friday shopping, decorating for every holiday, her Sweets by Cindy cakes and spending time with her beloved "Stanford Girls." Above all, her greatest joy came from being "Mom" and "Mimi." Her family was the center of her world, and she loved them deeply.

In addition to her husband, Dennis, she is survived by her parents, Shirley Brown Harper and James T. "Dad-Dad” Black, both of Lancaster; her beloved daughter, Brianna Paige Harper; the lights of her life, her son, Jaimien Peterson, and granddaughter, Chozyn "Mimi's Girl" Harper; brothers, Zack Brown of Cincinnati and Greg Harper (Cathy) of Arizona; sister, Nadine Harper-Stanley (Thomas) of Danville and brother, Jamie Harper of Lancaster; nieces and nephews, Shane, Trenn, Nina, Marcus, Corey, Tenica, Ryan, Callie Jo, Chelsea, Baby J, Jai'la, Tevis, and Sydney; a special aunt, Aunt Jeannie Willis of Cynthiana; brothers-in-law, Rev. James Custard (Deloris) of Georgetown, Billy Custard (Sheila) of Cynthiana, and David Custard of Cynthiana; and bonus siblings, Ebony Black, Carol Turner, Jeffrey Turner, and Darnell Turner.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George Sr. and Othello Brown; her sister, Joslyn Harper; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Custard, Charlotte Custard, Betty Jo Harper and Pam Kinney; and brothers-in-law, Rev. Alfonso Kinney and Michael Custard.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at St. James AME Church in Danville, Kentucky with Rev. H. Felix Ross officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville.

Shelia Schulte

September 9, 1962 - July 19, 2026

Shelia Schulte, 63, of Garrard County, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026 at UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Shelia was born on September 9, 1962 in Garrard County to the late Raymond and Joyce Broughton Jordan.

Shelia worked for the Garrard County School System in the cafeteria for over 22 years. She was a member of the Paint Lick Church of God.

She loved the Lord and her church family. Family was a very important aspect of her life. Shelia loved to sing and make people laugh. She loved animals, especially her dog, Bella.

Surviving is a husband, Steve Schulte; four sons, Orville Eden of Garrard County, Tyler Jordan of Garrard County, Steven Schulte of Georgetown, and Mark Schulte of Lincoln County; three daughters, Rebecca Allen, Kimberly Naylor and Nicole Jordan all of Garrard County; four sisters, Vanessa Abee (David) of Garrard County, Kathy Middleton (Tony) of Lincoln County, Hazel Talley (Marcus) of Garrard County, and Evelyn Tudor (Mark Houk) of Garrard County; nine grandchildren, Loralea Burton (Darrell) of Richmond, Brittany Brown (Bryan) of Richmond, Jordan Naylor (Haley) of Richmond, Sarah Naylor of Lancaster, Hannah Schulte of Garrard County, Audriana Ramirez of Garrard County, Olivia Ramirez (Chamarae) of Lancaster, Shelia Johnson (Zack) of Garrard County and Lynnix Gomez of Garrard County; twelve great grandchildren; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday, July 24, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Ray McCollum and Pastor Andy Saylor officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 am until service time.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Jordan Family Cemetery.

Marie Green Broaddus

March 20, 1933 - July 12, 2026

Marie Green Broaddus, 93, of Garrard County, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Harrodsburg Health & Rehab Center in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

Marie was born on March 20, 1933, in Boyle County to the late Virgil and Grace Green. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie Broaddus.

A faithful farmer's wife, Marie devoted her life to raising to***co and hay and helping operate the family dairy farm. She was an accomplished horsewoman who excelled in riding, training, and competition, earning numerous blue ribbons throughout the years. She was the oldest member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Kentucky Walking Horse Association. Marie was a devoted Christian who dearly loved her church, Pleasant Grove Christian Church. Above all, she was a loving wife and a dedicated mother.

She is survived by her son, Randall "Randy" Broaddus of Lancaster; her namesake and niece, Amber Nona Marie Followell of Harrodsburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her brother, Virgil "A.J." Green (Martha); and her sisters, Mary Elizabeth Green Satterly and Nona May Green Elam.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home, with Bro. Fred Willett officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Burgin Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the funeral home

Wilma Jean Moss Davis

November 26, 1936 - June 28, 2026

Wilma Jean Moss Davis, 89, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at her home. She was born November 26, 1936 in Lancaster to the late William Ball & Anna Elveree Carter Moss.

She retired after 21 years from the United States Postal Service as a Rural Mail Carrier. Wilma was a devoted member of New Antioch Christian Church.

Surviving is her loving husband of 70 years of marriage, Hugh Davis of Lancaster; two sons, Timothy Carter Davis (Renee) of Lancaster and Ricky Wayne Davis of Lancaster; a sister, Virginia Rogers of Florida; five grandchildren, Collin Davis (Naomi) of Williamsburg, KY; Canaan Berg (Connor) of Mt. Sterling, Shea Davis of Lancaster, Caleb Davis of Lancaster, and Ty Davis of Lancaster; a great grandchild, Evangeline Davis; a daughter in-law, Pamela Carr; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Along with her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by a son, Michael Reed Davis; a grandchild, Courtney Davis; four brothers, Billy Moss, Shelton Moss, Julian Moss and David Moss and two sisters, Carolyn Moss and Mary Katherine Moss Hurte.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, July 6, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Val McCord and Bro. Derrel Cone officiating.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Albert Darrell Spillman

October 2, 1955 - June 9, 2026

Albert “Darrell” Spillman, 70, of Lancaster, passed away June 9, 2026 at his home. He was born to the late Edwin Spillman and Sula Ray Dunn on October 2, 1955, in Garrard County.

Darrell attended school at GCHS, where he was well known for his athletic skills. After he graduated, he went to work in a factory, then started his family. He gave his life to God at an early age at First Baptist Church Duncantown- South Paulding St, where he attended regularly until his illness did not allow him to.

Darrell enjoyed life with his children, siblings and friends until the Lord called him home. He also enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, and laughing with a nice cold drink among family and friends.

We love and thank you Daddy for all the love and memories. Rest peacefully in heaven.

Darrell is survived by his one and only daughter, and caregiver, Danica Hale; four sons, Michael Brewster (Tiffany Wagnor), Da'Montez Wilkinson (Tiffany), Dathan Williams, and Darius Hale; grandchildren, Malik Brewster, Mylan Brewster, Layla Brewster, Devon Wilkinson, Christofer Jones, Drake Banks and Madison Gayheart; a brother, Robert Ray of Richmond; brothers-in-law Charles Alcorn, Robert Frye and Jamie Black of Lancaster; several nieces and nephews, cousins, and many special friends are left to cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by brothers Louie and Calvin Dunn; sisters, Ann Leavell, Shelia Alcorn, Sarona Black, and Yvonne Frye; niece, Victoria Dunn; nephew, Robert Dunn; and his loving and devoted partner of many years, Nora Hale.

Funeral services will be 1pm Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Duncantown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Irene Mullins, 90, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Danville Center for Health and Rehab. She was born in Barnes Corners, New York, on July 21, 1935, to the late Jerry and Florence Hiscock. Irene was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gordon Mullins.

Irene is survived by a son, Mike Birch; grandchildren, Adam Dodson and Chase Birch; great-grandchildren, Jesse Dodson (Morgan), Savannah Horn (Gage), Remmington Dodson, Harmony Dodson, Mia Dodson, Alexandria Dodson, and Heaven Osborne; granddaughter-in-law LeAnna Dodson, step daughters, Linda Brock and Debra Bicknell.

Irene was also preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Dodson, and a grandson, James Dodson.

A graveside service will be 10:00 AM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Browning officiating.
