Pastor Coy F. Day

January 17, 1937 - September 14, 2026

Pastor Coy Floyd Day, 89, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Coy was born on January 17, 1937, in Leslie County, to the late Harry and Versie Maggard Day. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce Day.

Coy loved farming and was the former pastor of White Oak Holiness Church.

Coy is survived by his son, Rodney Day (Tom) of Lexington; daughter, Karen Smith of Lancaster; grandchildren, Shana Stacey and Tera Rae; great-grandchildren, Hannah Gilbert (Dawson), Makayla Smith, Lexi Cheyenne (Connor), Blake Durham, Brooklynn Rae, and Bentley Stacey; and great-great-grandson, Weston “Lil Buddy” Ray Floyd Smith.

Coy was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 18, at 1:00 PM at Spurlin Funeral Home, with Pastor Bruce Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Day Family Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, September 17, from 6:00–9:00 PM.

Pallbearers will be Coy’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, along with Kenny Richie and Timmy Woods.

Spurlin Funeral Home is entrusted with Mr. Day’s arrangements.

Wanda Marie Flynn

September 6, 1935 - August 27, 2026

Wanda Marie Flynn, 90, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Parkview Manor Assisted Living in Danville. She was born in Garrard County, to the late William Glenmore and Christine Manuel McQuerry.

Wanda was a beloved teacher for the Garrard County School System for over 40 years. She started out teaching in a one room schoolhouse in Cartersville named Wren's School. Wanda was a lifelong member of Good Hope Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and played the piano as well.

Survivors are a grandson, Jameson Flynn (Bethany) of Lancaster; sisters, Mildred Purcell (Joe) of Lancaster, Loretta Parker (Barney) of Paint Lick, and Boots Whitaker of Lancaster. three great grandchildren, Presley Harper Flynn, Skylar Molen Teague and Mayson Molen and one great-great grandchild, Wyatt Ivy Teague.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmy; a son, James "Jimbo" Flynn; brothers, Houston, Ross, Gordon, Martin, David, and Jerry McQuerry; and sisters, Virginia Simpson, Glenna Castle, and Margaret Lee Huffman.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 31, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Manse Cemetery in Paint Lick.

Active pallbearers are Jerry Daniels, Shane McQuerry, Bryon McQuerry, Clint McQuerry, Doug Simpson, Keith Castle, and Robbie Castle.

Burland Lee Burdette

August 1, 1941 - August 13, 2026

Burland Lee Burdette, 85, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Harrodsburg Healthcare Signature in Harrodsburg, KY.

Burland was born on August 1, 1941 in Garrard County, KY to the late O’Rear and Emma Sebastian Burdette.

He was a commercial painter, an excellent blacksmith, and was a beekeeper for many years.

Burland proudly served in the United States Army.

Surviving is a son, Jason Jones (Richard Rosevelt Jones) of South Carolina; two nephews, Stuart Day and Mike Day both of Garrard County; two great nieces, Ashley Son of Los Angeles and Jana Day of Louisville.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Miller.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 12:00 pm on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Browning officiating

Burial will follow the funeral service at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.

Pallbearers are Jason Jones, Mike Day, and Stuart Day.

Steven Lynn Quisenberry

April 2, 1976 - August 6, 2026

Steven Lynn Quisenberry, 50, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Steven was born in Lexington, Kentucky, on April 2, 1976, to Arthur Quisenberry Jr. of Danville and Nellie V. (Leavell) Quisenberry of Garrard County.

Steven enjoyed many things in his spare time, including fishing, playing video games, listening to music, and drawing. Above all, he loved his family and friends. He cherished laughing, making memories, and spending time with the people he loved whenever he could. Steven had a kind and caring soul and was always willing to listen, lend a helping hand, or simply be there when someone needed him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steven is survived by his daughter, Kyla Jade Stone, 26; his beloved four-legged daughter, Janice; and his granddaughter, Azalee Stone. He is also survived by his two siblings, Gary Wayne Quisenberry and Debra Denise Quisenberry, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and friends whom he treasured dearly.

Steven would also want to recognize his forever friends and family who stood by him through it all: Antonio McPherson, Jay Wade Kavanaugh, Anthony Humber, and Leon Johnson. Their friendship and love meant more to him than words can express.

Steven will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His laughter, kindness, and memories will remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM on August 13, 2026 at St. Paul Predestinarian Baptist Church in Lancaster with Bro. Barry Bowman officiating.

Burial will follow in the Duncantown Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11:00 AM until the time of service on Thursday.

Rodney Wayne Smith

October 27, 1992 - August 2, 2026

Rodney Wayne Smith, 33, of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in Stanford, Kentucky. He was born in Stanford to Joyce Smith of Crab Orchard and the late Gary Todd Smith. Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Lauren Smith.

Rodney was a manager at Velocity Truck Sales and a devoted member of Brindel Ridge Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. A passionate football fan, he especially enjoyed cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. Above all, Rodney cherished his family and friends. He had a magnetic personality that drew people to him, and he will be remembered for the kindness, laughter, and joy he brought to everyone who knew him.

In addition to his wife and mother, Rodney is survived by his brothers, Michael Dowell, Cody Todd Smith, Stewart Grimes (Cheyenne), and Skyler Smith; his brother-in-law, Jordan Haynes; his cousin, Garrett Smith; his mother-in-law, Dana McLeod (Terry); his nephew, Levi Smith; and countless friends whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Todd Smith, and his sister, Cassie Rachelle Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery in McKinney.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Drew

Mary Lou Drew, 83, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday August 2, 2026 at her home. She was born on September 15, 1942 in Ashland Ohio.

Mary Lou worked for Genesco for over 30 years and retired from working many years in the Garrard County School System as a cook and custodian. She was a faithful member at Bryantsville Methodist Church for over 60 plus years, where she also served as the song leader.

Surviving is a son, Sonny Drew (Teresa) of Lancaster; a daughter, Ann Rhodus (Ronnie) of Paint Lick; two brothers, Billy Andreasen of Hawaii and Robert Kane of Ohio; a sister, Linda Andreasen of Danville; four grandchildren, Stacey Drew Brooks (Will) of Michigan, Brandon Drew (Autumn) of Lancaster, Jamie Newton (Josh) of Berea, and Kyle Rhodus (Destinee) of Lancaster; and seven great grandchildren, Granger Brooks, Emilia Brooks, Zane Newton, Finn Newton, Isabelle Newton, Willow Drew and Logan Rhodus.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband, Grover Cleveland Drew Jr. Along with her father that raised her, William Andreasen and her mother, Mary Hayes Andreasen.

Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday August 6, 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Steffen officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

Burial will follow the funeral service in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Bro. Bob Kiper

May 19, 1940 - July 27, 2026

Brother Robert “Bob” Lewis Kiper, 86, of Lancaster, passed away on July 27, 2026, at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Janet. Bob was born in Leitchfield, Kentucky, on May 19, 1940, to the late Ernest and Mable Oller Kiper.

Brother Bob wore many hats throughout his life. He was a devoted husband, loving father, faithful pastor, and cherished friend.

Raised as a farm boy, he proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years and two months during the Vietnam War, decoding enemy messages. He later graduated from college and seminary and faithfully pastored churches in Kentucky and Ohio.

Bob also owned an upholstery business before partnering with his son, Philip, to found PBS Logistics Inc. Through his faith, service, and hard work, Brother Bob left a legacy of love, integrity, and dedication that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Along with his wife, Bob was also survived by two sons, Stephen Kiper (Lisa) of Mason, Ohio, and Philip Kiper of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Brody Kiper, Eva Kiper, Ellie Kiper, Brock Kiper, Andrew Kiper, and Grady Kiper; and a great-grandchild, Brynlee.

Funeral service will be 11:30 AM on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Hedgeville Baptist Church with brother Jonathan Grizzell officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the time of service.

Katherine Sowder

Katherine Sowder, 96, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Born in Madison County, Kentucky, Katherine was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Richardson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Sowder, and her son, Mark Sowder.

Katherine had a strong work ethic throughout her life, working at Cowdens, National Casket Company, and Palm Beach. She also enjoyed a career as a beautician, where she loved serving others.

A faithful member of Lancaster Baptist Church, Katherine treasured attending Sunday School, worshiping with her church family, and enjoying fellowship with friends. Above all, she loved her family dearly and took great pride in each of their accomplishments.

She is survived by her son, David Sowder (Susan) of Lancaster; her brother, Harry Richardson Jr. of Florida; and her sister, Shelby Silvers of California. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lesley Newcomb, Scott Sowder (Martina), and Ambur Sowder, all of Lancaster, as well as her great-grandchildren, Braxton Sowder, Trevor Jones, Scarlett Doan, Phoenix Newcomb, Brantley Sowder, Austin Claire Lalonde, and Eleanor Parker Lalonde.

In addition to her parents, husband, and son, Katherine was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Richardson, and her sisters, Barbara Morris, Alberta Gannon, and Josephine Vance.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery.

Benita Lynn Harper Custard

Benita Lynn Harper Custard, 63, of Mercer County, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on July 18, 2026, in Danville. She was born on November 28, 1962, in Stanford, Kentucky, and was lovingly raised by her late grandparents, George Sr. and Othello Brown. She was the beloved wife of Dennis Allen Custard.

Benita was a dedicated Senior Administrative Assistant at Trailblazer Academy for many years. She was also a faithful member of 1st Baptist Church Davistown, where she faithfully served in many capacities, including Children's Church leader, Annual Missionary Tea, and a member of the kitchen ministry. She loved the Lord wholeheartedly and found great joy in serving her church family.

Benita cherished family gatherings and celebrations, always making sure there was plenty of food and take home trays, laughter, and love for everyone. She was also a treasured member of the Spurlin Funeral Home family, where she compassionately served countless families during their times of loss. She enjoyed yard sales, playing Pick 3, Black Friday shopping, decorating for every holiday, her Sweets by Cindy cakes and spending time with her beloved "Stanford Girls." Above all, her greatest joy came from being "Mom" and "Mimi." Her family was the center of her world, and she loved them deeply.

In addition to her husband, Dennis, she is survived by her parents, Shirley Brown Harper and James T. "Dad-Dad” Black, both of Lancaster; her beloved daughter, Brianna Paige Harper; the lights of her life, her son, Jaimien Peterson, and granddaughter, Chozyn "Mimi's Girl" Harper; brothers, Zack Brown of Cincinnati and Greg Harper (Cathy) of Arizona; sister, Nadine Harper-Stanley (Thomas) of Danville and brother, Jamie Harper of Lancaster; nieces and nephews, Shane, Trenn, Nina, Marcus, Corey, Tenica, Ryan, Callie Jo, Chelsea, Baby J, Jai'la, Tevis, and Sydney; a special aunt, Aunt Jeannie Willis of Cynthiana; brothers-in-law, Rev. James Custard (Deloris) of Georgetown, Billy Custard (Sheila) of Cynthiana, and David Custard of Cynthiana; and bonus siblings, Ebony Black, Carol Turner, Jeffrey Turner, and Darnell Turner.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George Sr. and Othello Brown; her sister, Joslyn Harper; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Custard, Charlotte Custard, Betty Jo Harper and Pam Kinney; and brothers-in-law, Rev. Alfonso Kinney and Michael Custard.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at St. James AME Church in Danville, Kentucky with Rev. H. Felix Ross officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Danville Memorial Gardens in Danville.
