A little time spent learning at the Mobile Chamber of Commerce today, discussing ways we can continue growing and better serving our patients.
It got me thinking…
If we could encourage every patient to do five things to become a healthier version of themselves, these would be at the top of our list.
Not because everyone needs more testing, medications, or treatments. But because we believe people deserve to understand their bodies, ask better questions, and take an active role in their health and to be proactive.
Healthcare should be more than waiting until something goes wrong.
And sometimes the biggest change starts with deciding that your health deserves to be a priority, too.
Swipe through our five reminders.
1. Stop settling for “your labs look normal.”
Pursue comprehensive lab testing and, more importantly, someone who takes the time to analyze it.
Those numbers exist for a reason. When interpreted alongside your symptoms, history, and lifestyle, they help us put together a much bigger picture of your health.
Normal results don’t always tell the whole story.
2. Get the DEXA scan.
The scale only tells you how much you weigh. It doesn’t tell you what that weight is made of.
A DEXA scan measures fat mass, lean mass, and visceral fat, giving us a better understanding of your body composition and potential metabolic risk.
Where you carry fat matters, too.
And everybody needs a baseline. You can’t track meaningful progress without knowing where you started.
3. Hormone therapy isn’t for everybody. But it isn’t the enemy, either.
Fatigue, low libido, poor sleep, and changes in body composition shouldn’t automatically be dismissed as “just getting older.”
Hormone therapy isn’t appropriate for everyone, but for the right patient, it can make a meaningful difference.
You deserve an evaluation, an informed conversation about risks and benefits, and options beyond simply suffering through symptoms.
4. GLP-1 medications aren’t a cheat code.
They’re a tool in the toolbox.
When medically appropriate and paired with adequate nutrition, resistance training, and sustainable lifestyle changes, they can be life-changing.
The goal isn’t just to lose weight. It’s to improve metabolic health, preserve muscle, and build habits that last.
5. 5. Stop putting yourself last.
You spend so much time taking care of your spouse, your children, your career, your household, and everybody else’s needs.
But somewhere along the way, your own health becomes the thing you keep putting off.
You cannot continuously pour from an empty cup.
Make the appointment. Start moving. Prioritize your sleep. Invest in your health.
You deserve the same care you so freely give everyone else.
And it starts today.
