Bethea Retirement Community Bethea is one of two retirement communities of the SC Baptist Ministries of Aging

🥨🇩🇪 PROST to a Fantastic First Oktoberfest at Bethea! 🇩🇪🥨

WOW! What a wonderful crowd we had for our very first Bethea Oktoberfest!

The bratwurst was sizzling, the pretzels were delicious, and the strudel was a sweet treat! But the best part of the afternoon wasn't on the menu — it was the laughter, smiles, and wonderful fellowship! ❤️

There was no shortage of good food, great company, and plenty of reasons to smile. We couldn't have asked for a better turnout or a more fun-filled afternoon!

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our first Oktoberfest such a success! We may have just started a new Bethea tradition!

If you feel weighed down by burdens, Jesus will lighten the load for you.

Jesus said, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:29-30).

A yoke is a wooden frame you put over two animals so they can pull a piece of farm equipment together. The purpose of a yoke is to lighten the load, not to make it heavier. Sharing a yoke means sharing the load you’re carrying.

If you feel the weight of the world on your shoulders, Jesus wants to help you. Give your stress and worries to Him. You will find the best relief for your cares.

Throughout the month of September, Bethea residents and staff joined together for our Alphabet Food Drive benefiting the Manna House!

We collected non-perishable food items to help stock their shelves and support individuals and families in our community. We are so thankful to everyone who participated and helped make this month’s mission project a success.

At Bethea, giving back is one of the many ways we stay connected to the community around us. ❤️

We’re revving up for the 2nd Annual Bethea Cruise-In, and we want YOU to join us for an evening of beautiful cars, great music, good food, and even better company!

🚗 Got a ride you’re proud of? Register and bring it out! Classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, vintage rides and more are welcome. Our residents absolutely LOVE seeing the cars, hearing the stories behind them, and meeting their owners!

👀 Don’t have a car to show? No problem! Come stroll through the lineup, admire the rides, visit with friends, and enjoy LIVE MUSIC by The Emeralds! 🎶

Each month, our Bethea residents have the opportunity to take part in a special mission project, and we are grateful to partner with Elim Methodist Church in helping others beyond our community.

For our September Mission Project, residents generously donated diapers to be sent to a missionary ministry in Jenkins, Kentucky.

Pictured are Pastor Jeff and Nita Huntley, who have known missionaries Bessie and Lester McPeek for many years. The McPeeks live and serve in Jenkins, faithfully ministering to families and individuals in their community.

And our mission continues into October!

For our October Mission Project, Bethea Baptist Church and our residents are collecting toilet paper for Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries. If anyone in the community would like to donate and help us support this wonderful ministry, please let us know! We would love to have you join us.

We are thankful for everyone who gives, serves, and helps us continue reaching beyond the walls of Bethea.

All That Glitters is Not Gold

In 1848, a sawmill operator in California discovered gold in the water near Sutter's Mill. Within one year, 100,000 people moved to California looking for a fortune. Many of those prospectors had never seen real gold. They were fooled by pyrite, a mineral that shines like gold, but is worthless. That is why we call it "fool's gold."

Those uneducated treasure hunters found out that all that glitters is not gold. Some things in our world look good, but they are not good for us. The Apostle Paul gives us words of wisdom: "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Colossians 3:2).

It was a whole lotta Dolly at Bethea today!

We celebrated Dolly Day the best way we knew how—with big hair, big laughs, and a whole lot of love for the one and only Dolly Parton! 🌸

🎬 9 to 5 played throughout the day in our movie theater, while residents enjoyed refreshments and shared some of their favorite Dolly memories, songs, and stories. It turns out Dolly has been part of a LOT of memories over the years!

Of course, we couldn’t call it Dolly Day without a little friendly competition, so we wrapped up the afternoon with Dolly Bingo.

It was a day full of laughter, reminiscing, music, and fellowship—and a sweet reminder of why Dolly has been loved by generations.

As Dolly says, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” 💕✨

A Morning of Music & Fellowship at Bethea 🎶

Our residents enjoyed a wonderful morning in the Bethea Chapel with Christian artist Jim Quales.

It was a beautiful time of uplifting music, fellowship, and songs that spoke to the heart. We are so grateful to Jim for sharing his time and talent with our Bethea family and filling our chapel with such meaningful music.

Thank you, Jim, for a wonderful morning. We truly enjoyed having you with us!
