Back-to-school season comes with plenty of lists. Make sure your child's health is on one of them!

Before the school year gets underway, take a few minutes to review immunization records, check for required vaccines, complete school or sports forms, and schedule any appointments your child may need.

Getting these tasks taken care of early can help avoid the last-minute rush and make sure your student is ready for the year ahead.

Not sure what your child needs? Check your school's current requirements and talk with your healthcare provider about recommended vaccines and preventive care.

Putting off an appointment because you feel nervous? Healthcare anxiety is more common than you might think.

Worry about bad news, embarrassment about a health concern, uncertainty about what to expect, or a difficult past healthcare experience can all make it harder to seek care.

If appointments make you anxious, a little preparation can help:

• Write down your questions and concerns beforehand.
• Bring someone you trust for support, if appropriate.
• Let your care team know you're feeling nervous.
• Ask questions when something isn't clear.
• Make a list of medications or health information you want to discuss.

Taking the first step can be difficult, but you shouldn't have to wait until a health concern becomes harder to ignore.

Your concerns matter. Your health does, too.

When life gets busy, taking care of yourself can quickly fall to the bottom of the list. But being constantly busy without giving yourself time to recharge can affect both your mental and physical well-being.

Burnout doesn't usually happen overnight. It can build gradually when stress continues for long periods without enough opportunity to recover. That's why it's important to pay attention to how you're feeling and make space for your well-being before you reach your limit.

You don't need a perfect routine or hours of free time to start. Small, realistic changes that fit into your everyday life can help you better manage stress and protect your mental health.

If stress begins interfering with your daily life or feels difficult to manage on your own, consider talking with a healthcare professional.

You don't have to wait until you're running on empty to make time for your mental health.

Know Before You Go: Check Today's Air Quality

Wildfire smoke can affect air quality quickly, and conditions may change throughout the day. Before heading outside for work, exercise, yardwork, or other activities, take a moment to check the Air Quality Index (AQI).

When smoke is affecting your area:
• Consider limiting strenuous outdoor activity
• Spend more time in cleaner indoor air
• Keep windows and doors closed when appropriate
• Pay extra attention if you have asthma, heart or lung disease, or are at higher risk from smoke

A quick AQI check can help you decide when to adjust your outdoor plans and reduce your exposure to wildfire smoke.

Check the air. Plan your day. Protect your health.

There may never be a perfect time to prioritize your health.

Work, family, appointments, projects, and everyday responsibilities can make it easy to think, "I'll get to it when things slow down." But preventive healthcare doesn't have to be a major undertaking.

Scheduling a checkup, establishing care with a primary care provider, asking about a concern you've been putting off, or finding out which preventive services you're due for are all meaningful steps.

This August, we're encouraging our community to stop waiting for the "right time" and make health part of the schedule you already have.

Your health is worth making time for now.

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

Stress, anxiety, sadness, and burnout can affect your sleep, relationships, energy, concentration, and even your physical well-being. Taking care of your emotional health isn't selfish, it's an important part of your overall wellness.

Just like you'd seek care for a lingering cough or ongoing pain, it's okay to ask for help when your mental health isn't where you'd like it to be.

You don't have to wait until you're in crisis to start the conversation.

If you're struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns, your primary care provider is a great place to start. We're here to listen, support you, and connect you with the care you need.

You can feel perfectly healthy and still have high blood pressure.

Often called the "silent" health risk, high blood pressure usually doesn't cause symptoms, but over time, it can increase your risk for heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and other serious health problems.

The good news? It's easy to check.

Knowing your numbers is one of the simplest ways to take charge of your health. Along with regular blood pressure checks, staying active, eating a balanced diet, limiting sodium, and taking medications as prescribed can all help keep your blood pressure under control.

If it's been a while since you've had your blood pressure checked, schedule an appointment with one of our primary care providers. Regular checkups can help identify concerns early and keep you on track for better long-term health.

One of the most common questions people ask is, "Should I get this checked out?"

While not every symptom is an emergency, ongoing or unusual changes shouldn't be ignored.

If something doesn't feel right or isn't getting better, it's worth talking with a healthcare provider.

Getting answers early can provide reassurance or help identify concerns before they become more serious.

Not sure if you should be seen? Our primary care providers are here to help you decide the best next step.

Everyone has difficult days. But if feelings of sadness, worry, stress, or hopelessness begin affecting your daily life, it may be time to check in with someone.

Mental health concerns are common, and you don't have to face them alone.

Recognizing changes in your mood, sleep, energy, or ability to enjoy everyday activities is an important first step toward getting support.

Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's part of taking care of your overall health.

Your primary care provider can be a great place to start the conversation. If you've been struggling, we're here to listen and help connect you with the care you need.
