Parents, your athlete's biggest safety advocate is YOU! 📣

As youth sports ramp up, run through this quick checklist to set your kid up for a safe, fun season.

One more tip: keep the pressure low and the fun high. Kids who enjoy their sport are more likely to communicate about pain and injuries instead of hiding them. ❤️

Save this checklist and share it with a fellow sports parent!

Your knees carry you through every sprint, cut, and jump—protect them like the MVPs they are!

Knee injuries like ACL tears and runner's knee sideline thousands of athletes every year, but many are preventable. Here's how to stay in the game:

• Warm up dynamically: leg swings, lunges, and light jogging prep your joints for action
• Strengthen the support crew: strong quads, hamstrings, and glutes take pressure off your knees
• Train your landing mechanics: land soft, knees over toes, never caving inward
• Don't skip rest days: overuse is one of the biggest culprits behind knee pain
• Wear the right footwear for your sport and replace worn-out shoes

Small habits now can mean fewer injuries later. Your future self (and your knees) will thank you!

Dealing with knee pain that won't quit? Don't push through it—get it checked out early.

🎒 Back-to-School Backpack Check!

A backpack that's too heavy can lead to back, neck, and shoulder pain—especially in growing kids.

Quick rule of thumb: A child's backpack should weigh no more than 10 – 15% of their body weight.

Think your child is carrying too much? Try our backpack safety challenge!

How many boxes can your child check? Let us know in the comments!

When the room feels like it's spinning, everyday life can become a challenge.

Vertigo and dizziness can make it difficult to walk, drive, work, or even get out of bed. The good news is that many balance disorders caused by problems in the inner ear, including vestibular neuritis and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), can often be successfully treated with specialized physical therapy.

At Plaza Physical Therapy, our certified therapists perform a thorough evaluation to identify the cause of your symptoms and create a personalized treatment plan. Treatment may include repositioning maneuvers, balance retraining, habituation exercises, and education to help you regain confidence and return to your daily routine.

Fall sports season is almost here—let's talk football safety!

Before your athlete hits the field, make sure they're set up for a safe season:

• Get a preseason physical—catch issues before they become injuries.
• Check that helmets and pads fit properly (last year's gear may not!).
• Hydrate early and often, especially during those hot August practices.
• Learn the signs of concussion—when in doubt, sit it out.
• Ease into conditioning—gradual ramp-up prevents strains and heat illness.

A strong season starts with smart prep. Coaches, parents, and players all play a part in keeping the game safe.

Surgery is only half the journey—recovery is where the real work happens.

Physical therapy plays a vital role in getting you back to the life you love after surgery:

• Restores strength and mobility safely, step by step
• Reduces pain and swelling without relying solely on medication
• Prevents complications like stiffness, scar tissue buildup, and blood clots
• Rebuilds confidence in your body's movement
• Gets you back to work, hobbies, and daily life faster

Every recovery is unique—that's why a personalized PT plan matters. Following your therapist's guidance (yes, even the home exercises!) can make all the difference in your outcome.

Recently had surgery or have one coming up? Ask your care team how physical therapy fits into your recovery plan.

Tight muscles, lingering aches, and stubborn pain can make everyday activities more difficult than they should be.

Trigger point dry needling is a specialized technique used by trained physical therapists to target muscle knots, or "trigger points," that may be contributing to pain, tension, and restricted movement. By releasing these tight areas, dry needling can help reduce discomfort, improve mobility, and support the body's natural healing process.

Wondering if dry needling could be right for you? Our team of experts can help determine the best treatment approach for your needs.
