Nobody warns you that the hardest adjustment of freshman year might have nothing to do with your sport at all.

I teamed up with Dr. Dana Reid (Dr.Dana Reid), who works with young adults through major life transitions, to talk about the part of going to college that doesn’t show up on any packing list.

👉 Swipe through for what’s worth a second look and how to walk in a little more ready.

If any of this feels familiar for you or your athlete, follow Dr. Tia Konzer | Psychiatrist, DO and Dr.Dana Reid for more on preparing athletes for what’s ahead, on and off the field.

Your nervous system doesn’t need more caffeine, it needs a break 👀

Next time, try one of these instead 👇
→ 10-min walk outside
Movement wakes your brain up better than caffeine does. No gym required.

→ 2 minutes of slow, deep breathing
Sounds too simple, but it genuinely calms your system down when you’ve been ‘on’ all day

→ A full glass of water
A lot of that afternoon fog is actually just dehydration. Most of us forget to drink water when we’re in go-mode.

→ One song you love
Seriously, music shifts your mood fast. Give your brain a 3-minute vacation.

None of these take more than 10 minutes. All of them work better than the 3rd coffee 😉

Send it to someone who needs the reminder today.

💌 Every month I share real, practical tools for managing the mental load, performing at your best, and staying sane while doing it.

Nobody posts the bad reps. In college sports, comparison is everywhere.

That's why I brought in Jeanene Gray (Jeanene Gray M.Ed, M.S. | Athlete Mental Performance), a mental performance coach with 14+ years working inside D1 programs, to talk about why it hits college athletes so hard, and what to do about it.

👉 Swipe through!

The “I’ve got it handled” era has been running for how long now? 👀

Somewhere early, ‘I’ve got this’ got rewarded and it kept getting rewarded, until being the capable one stopped feeling like something you do and started feeling like who you are.

Being strong for others and needing support yourself can live in the same person at the same time.

The best performers I work with didn’t get there by doing everything alone. They got there by knowing when to bring the right people in.

So if you’re on the phone right now debating whether to actually say the thing or just go with “I’m fine, I just called to check in”

Say the thing.

You can be the person and still have a person.

💌 If this one found you, you’re probably who it was written for. Every month in my newsletter, I get into the real conversation around performance, identity, and mental health.

Link in bio if you want in.

And if you want to come back to this, save it. Sometimes we need the reminder more than once.

Hi to all the new and familiar faces 😊 I'm Dr. Tia, or Dr. K, if you prefer.

Some of you have been here from day 1, some might've just discovered this page. Either way, really glad you're here!

A little about me: I grew up playing soccer, chasing goals way before I understood what it actually took to keep showing up for them.

That experience is the whole reason this work hits differently for me.

At some point it clicked for me that medicine was only part of the answer.

The body keeps score, but so does the mind. And when you're only training one, you're leaving a lot on the table.

That realization changed everything for me, and it became the foundation of everything I do now.

So if you're someone who keeps pushing, keeps achieving, but wonders how long you can hold it all together, this space is for you.

If you're curious about working together, you can find more at drkonzer.com 💙

And if this is the kind of content you want to see more of, hit follow. I'd love to have you along for this.

It is easy to look at self-talk as just another trendy mindset concept.

But when we look at the clinical side, it actually comes down to basic neurobiology.

Our brains are incredibly adaptable through neuroplasticity.

Your brain does not spend energy verifying if your internal criticism is 100% true. Instead, it pays attention to REPETITION.

As Sarah Pappas points out, repeated thoughts physically rewire your brain. If you are constantly telling yourself you fail under pressure, that story becomes your reality.

Learning to steer that internal dialogue is about treating your words as a technical skill, just like training any physical movement.
