Q: Can I travel abroad with my pets?

A: Yes, with some pets. Not all owned animals qualify as pets. For those that are able to accompany their owners, they must be healthy, have a valid international health certificate, meet all of the vaccine and deworming requirements of the country you are traveling to, and they must meet the requirements of the airline. This process can sometimes start months prior to the trip, so if you are thinking of traveling abroad with your animal, please check the requirements to ensure you have ample time to plan.

Meet Thor! He is our employee pet of the month, and he is owned by our Lead Veterinary Technician and Medical Coordinator Noël. Thor is a 12 year old African Spurred Tortoise (Sulcata Tortoise). He was given to Noël at around a year of age because he had an upper respiratory infection and metabolic bone disease. He was soft like a sponge and required long term care. Today he is a bulldozer and lives for his shell rubs and food. He comes when he is called and will try to help with all the yard work, even though he just gets in the way. Thor has a very sweet personality and will actually beg for treats (he loves collard greens).

Q: Can my veterinarian provide me papers for my pet to be an emotional support animal?

A: No, the necessary paperwork for your pet to be an emotional support animal needs to come from your mental health provider. Veterinarians are not able to classify pets as emotional support animals. We are able to provide your emotional support animal with the best care possible and with some treats and belly rubs. 🙂
