A client 50+ sent me a red light therapy video and asked if it would fix her hip pain. My answer was no — unless. Red light therapy isn’t fake. It can help calm inflammation and support cellular health. But her hip pain is being driven by a structural issue — the joint mechanics are off, a good amount of scar tissue, the load is uneven, and the body isn’t moving the way it was built to. Every time she stands up, sensors in her joint called Piezo1 fire off, reading imbalance, excess load, and inactivity. That cascade opens a calcium gate, stresses the mitochondria, and contributes to cartilage breakdown over time. So the wrap may be helping on one side of the equation while her own mechanics keep working against her on the other. That’s why the light alone rarely wins. The order matters — move the joints, move the body, strengthen the levers, and always find ways to reduce load — then tools like red light therapy become support staff, not the solution. You can’t shine your way out of bad mechanics.

My mom passed away shortly after I graduated.

I’m 43 and I still catch myself wanting to make her proud — like
I’m a kid again, learning the ropes.That’s what a great mom does. She doesn’t leave when she leaves.

The void is GIGANTIC. Not just because she’s “my mom” but because of the imprint she left on me and on my brothers’. Moms bring something to the table only they can bring. Being a mama’s boy, I felt it always, in all ways. It’s special. It’s a superpower.

She had this ability to stretch the day and do it with a smile and a laugh. Lighthearted. Refreshing to be around.
She’d work all day and all night, and then start dinner at 10 or 11pm. With love. With light. That’s exactly why her kids grew up loving the kitchen. Everything I am as a parent today, I trace back to her. She talked the talk and walked the walk. Rare nowadays.

She used to randomly write me her thoughts. This is one of the last ones. I tear up every time I read it. And honestly? It’s a great release.

So today, happy Mother’s Day to the moms still here, and to the moms we carry with us. Squeeze your mom tight. Love the f***ing sh out of her while you can.
