🧠👁️ Seeing doesn’t stop at your eyes. Your optic nerve plays a crucial role in carrying visual information from the retina to your brain.

Made up of more than a million nerve fibers, it acts like a communication pathway—allowing your brain to process the information your eyes collect into the images you see.

📸 Every time you look at something, light travels through your eye and reaches the retina—a thin layer of light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye.

The retina converts that light into electrical signals, which travel through the optic nerve to your brain. Your brain then interprets those signals as the images you see. 👁️🧠

It all happens almost instantly, all day long.

👁️ Your eyes continuously produce and drain fluid to help maintain a healthy internal pressure.

When that system becomes unbalanced, pressure inside the eye can become elevated. For some people, elevated eye pressure increases the risk of damage to the optic nerve and glaucoma.

The tricky part? You usually can't feel elevated eye pressure—which is one reason glaucoma can progress without obvious warning signs.

👀 They both involve improving vision, but LASIK and cataract surgery treat completely different parts of the eye.

✨ LASIK reshapes the cornea to change how light is focused.

✨ Cataract surgery removes the eye's cloudy natural lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens.

That means LASIK doesn't remove cataracts—and cataract surgery isn't simply “LASIK for older adults.”

Your eyes need time to adapt to lower levels of light. Your pupils widen and specialized cells in your retina become more sensitive, gradually helping you see better in the darkness. 🔦

But if you’ve noticed that adjusting to darkness has become significantly harder, especially while driving at night, mention it at your next eye appointment.
