What started as one family’s healthcare journey has become a way to help countless others. 💛

After navigating her son Colton’s medically complex care, Heather joined our Family Partner program to make sure families like hers feel heard, supported and less alone. Now, her daughter Rebecca is continuing that impact alongside her.

✨ “Seeing how people’s voices actually make a difference in healthcare has been incredible,” Rebecca shared. “This is the place to be if you want to learn and make positive changes.”

Together, they’ve helped shape projects across the hospital - from the Emergency Department to the Ronald McDonald Family Room - helping improve the experience for kids and families every step of the way.

For Heather, it’s about turning lived experience into meaningful change. For Rebecca, it’s an opportunity to explore a future in healthcare while making a difference today.

Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, teen or young adult, your voice matters here. Family Partners help us build a better experience for every child and family we serve.

✈️ Traveling with kids? Tantrums can pop up when routines go off track. Try these quick tips:

🧳 Prep them for what to expect: Talk about what to expect on the trip — long lines, delays, quiet time. Knowing what’s coming helps kids feel more in control.

👏 Praise the calm moments: Even small moments of good behavior — like staying calm during boarding — deserve a high-five. Positive reinforcement goes a long way.

🎧 Pack calming tools: Bring favorite comfort items, headphones, or a calming activity like coloring or fidget toys.

🗣 Help them name their feelings: If your child gets upset, stay calm and help them label the emotion. “It’s okay to feel frustrated. Let’s take a few deep breaths together.”

🚶‍♂️ Take breaks before meltdowns start: Give your child space to cool down before a meltdown escalates. Sometimes a short walk or quiet time can reset the mood.

Traveling with kids is tough — but tantrums don’t have to take over your trip. 💼💙You’ve got this!

👨‍👩‍👧 Date night, family night… and making a difference.

For Jaci and Cody Wynk, joining Dayton Children’s Family Partner program started as a way to give back. What they didn’t expect was how meaningful it would become for their own family. After navigating the challenges of raising a medically complex daughter, they found the meetings offered a sense of purpose — and a chance to reconnect.

💡 “We turned Wednesday nights into a guaranteed mom-and-dad date night,” they shared. “Sometimes it’s just the two of us reflecting, sometimes we bring the kids. We talk about ways to make life easier for other families, and we leave inspired every time.”

Over the past year, the Wynks have shared their perspective to help improve hospital processes — from Emergency Room organization to small changes in patient rooms that make a big difference for families. Their insights ensure that families facing complex diagnoses feel heard, supported, and less alone.

✨ “Being part of this team lets us give back to a place that saved our daughter’s life while strengthening our bond as a family. We’ve met incredible people who truly understand what it’s like to walk in our shoes, and together we’re helping other families feel seen and supported.”

💛 Couples, parents, families — your perspective matters. Whether it’s date night, family night, or a little of both, joining as a Family Partner gives you a chance to make a meaningful impact while growing closer as a family.

Some kids measure strength by how much they can lift.
Aniya measures it by how many times she got back up. 💜

After multiple injuries, surgeries and setbacks, Aniya spent a lot of time at Dayton Children’s. But what could have been one of the hardest seasons of her life became something else entirely: a place where she felt seen, supported and never alone.

From cheering on her gymnastics teammates in a pink cast, to rebuilding her confidence through physical therapy, to finding joy again through volleyball and theatre, Aniya’s journey is a powerful reminder that healing is about more than medicine. It’s about having people in your corner who believe in you.

“I came to Dayton Children’s and everyone rallied around me. They didn’t judge; they just took care of me. They felt like family.” – Aniya

Thank you, Aniya, for sharing your story and inspiring us all with your resilience, positivity and light. ✨
