As many of you know, my basement recently experienced its fourth sewer backup and flood. What many people don't know is the true extent of the damage. So far, several thousand dollars worth of property has been damaged or destroyed, including books, art supplies, instruments, furniture, business materials, event supplies, and personal belongings collected over a lifetime.
Three days ago, I started a fundraiser because the financial impact is simply more than I can manage alone. To be completely transparent, after three days, not a single donation has come in.
I'll admit that has been discouraging.
Like many people who work in helping professions, I'm much more comfortable giving support than asking for it. For years, I've poured my heart into creating healing spaces, community events, support groups, art experiences, and opportunities for connection. Being the person in need is unfamiliar territory for me.
The reality is that I am exhausted. Between the flood cleanup, ongoing health challenges, damage to my home and belongings, and the strain of trying to keep my work and community offerings going, I am carrying more than I can handle on my own.
If my work, friendship, art, events, groups, or presence in your life has ever made a positive difference, I am asking for your help now. A donation of any size helps. If you're not able to contribute financially, sharing the fundraiser would mean the world to me.
Sometimes the people who spend their lives helping others need a hand too.
Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for helping me through one of the hardest chapters I've faced in a very long time. ❤️
