Earlier this week, Kendra Herber closed out the International Para Standing Tennis Association 500 in Mason, Ohio (just up the road from our Cincinnati office) with a doubles run all the way to the championship match. It came down to a 10-8 tiebreak.
In her own words:
“I am really proud of my doubles performance in the championship match. I held my own against three of the best players in the world. As the only female, I feel like it helped make a statement about what us women are capable of.
I also think if you watched a video of my doubles match even six months ago, I would’ve looked like an entirely different player today. That just goes to show what focused hard work can do for your improvement.
Lastly, I am really excited to have two young new players compete at this tournament. One of them is a female who has a ton of potential in the sport. As we try to grow Para Standing Tennis, new juniors, especially females, are pivotal.”
Two things stand out to us. Six months of focused work that was easily visible on the court and the fact that after a championship match that went to a tiebreak, the thing she wanted to talk about was the next generation of players coming up behind her.
That’s who we get to work with. Kendra is the No. 1 ranked women’s Para Standing Tennis player in the world and an Optimus Prosthetics patient - how lucky are we.
