For years, I have been building the infrastructure for functional medicine in pharmacy — the courses, the community, the Bootcamp, the Alliance.

What you've seen less of is ME.

That was intentional, for a while. FMPhA has always been bigger than one person, and I believed — rightly — that elevating the community mattered more than being the face of it. But there was also something else happening behind the scenes: a season of deep personal change that needed space and quiet to move through.

Losing my mom in 2021.

Coming off birth control and watching my own hormonal health unravel in ways my pharmacy training hadn't prepared me for.

Leaving corporate America.

Finding my way through grief and anxiety and, eventually, experiences in Costa Rica that shifted something fundamental about how I understand life and what I’m here to do.

The Lauren Castle Show exists because I have come out the other side of all of that — and I have things to say.

Not tips. Not protocols. Real, honest conversations about what it looks like to thrive as a pharmacist — in your body, your career, your relationships, and your sense of purpose.

We talk a lot in pharmacy about surviving.

Surviving the shift. Surviving the workload. Surviving the burnout. Getting through to the weekend, the holiday, the end of the year.

And I get it. I lived in that version of pharmacy for a long time.
But I want to offer a different frame.

What if thriving as a pharmacist doesn't mean finding a way to cope with a career that's slowly grinding you down — but actually building something that genuinely lights you up?

What if it means understanding your own body as well as you understand your patients'?

Making decisions about your health from a place of embodied wisdom, not just the status quo?

Having the financial freedom and time freedom to take a trip without counting PTO days?

Doing clinical work that actually gets to the root of what's wrong, rather than managing symptoms indefinitely and adding “a pill for every ill?”

That's the version of pharmacy — and of life — that I've spent the last decade working towards. Not just for myself, but for the pharmacists inside FMPhA who are building it too.

It's also what The Lauren Castle Show is about.

Not tips. Not protocols. Real conversations about what it means to truly thrive — in your body, your career, your relationships, and your sense of self.

The Lauren Castle Show isn't for everyone...yet.

It's for the trailblazers and the early adopters.

The pharmacists and practitioners who've hit every conventional milestone — the degree, the licence, the job, maybe the promotion — and still felt like they were just scratching the surface of what’s possible.

It's for the pharmacist who became interested in functional medicine through their own health journey, or a loved one's, and can't stop thinking about what it would mean to practice that way.

The Lauren Castle Show is officially live… and I’m not going to pretend I’m not emotional about it. 🥹

Episode 1 is out right now, and in it I share my whole story. The real one. Not the version I would have told you several years ago, when I was still deep in Walmart corporate, quietly building FMPhA in every spare hour I had, and telling myself everything was fine.

This is the version where I talk about discovering functional medicine not as a pharmacist, but as a wife who ran out of conventional answers for her husband. Where I talk about what was happening to my own body and mind behind the scenes of a career that looked, from the outside, like it was going exactly to plan. Where I talk about my mom’s death and how it broke me open. About the 10 weeks of intensive outpatient therapy; sitting in the very same chair she did as she struggled with her own mental health. About my first psychedelic ceremony in Costa Rica in January 2023, which changed my whole world view.

I’ve been dreaming about this podcast for years. The reason it’s only now coming out is simple: some things need to be lived first before they can be shared.

Eight years ago, I attended my first IFM event. It was AFMCP 2018 at this very same hotel here in San Diego. I was finishing my Masters of Science in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine and I got to take AFMCP as an elective credit. The program was amazing, and there were 3 pharmacists included myself in the room. But at one point, there was a slide presented about “The Collaborative Care Team” and notably absent from the table was the pharmacist. I walked up and told the speaker that they might want to addd us to the slide for future presentations, and they enthusiastically agreed and even gave us a shout out from the stage. But that moment planted a seed. I had started in 2017 to bring functional medicine into pharmacy, but first, we needed to bring pharmacists into functional medicine.

I then got to speak with Dr. Luby at the reception that night and excitedly told him about our facebook group with 500 pharmacists and asked how we could get more involved. That then began the discussion of what would become our interprofessional partnership with IFM which was formalized in 2021.

I started attending AIC in 2023 and was so inspired by Sandi Scheinbaum’s talk about the role of health coaches in functional medicine. I thought, “we need to do a talk like that but for pharmacists.”

I applied to speak in 2024 and 2025 but wasn’t accepted. But finally, this year alongside my two dear friends and , our presentation on “The Pharmacist Role in the Functional Medicine Team” was accepted.

This has been my dream for 8 years, and it finally came true. To have 10 amazing (female!) pharmacists in the room to witness it made it even more special. 💞

In this moment, I feel so complete. So proud of all the advocacy and education that we have accomplished over the years. It has truly been a team effort with many conversations at every level, and each of us working in our own unique way to move the profession forward. And now, even a decade into my functional medicine journey, I know we are still just scratching the surface.

There’s never been a better time to join and become a Functional Medicine Pharmacist. 💚
