Did you know Abraham Lincoln's final journey home took nearly two weeks?

For this Friday's funeral fact, we're taking a look back at one of the most remarkable funeral processions in American history.

As part of President Abraham Lincoln's funeral arrangements, his body was transported by train from Washington, D.C., to his hometown of Springfield, Illinois. The journey covered more than 1,600 miles, with thousands of mourners gathering along the tracks and in cities along the route to pay their respects.

The train even retraced much of the route Lincoln had taken to Washington for his inauguration four years earlier.

What began as a journey home became a historic national farewell.
