Hello, I wanted to take a moment to re-introduce myself. I'm Jaymie McCammon, LCSW, and I have been practicing in the field of mental health for eighteen years. I am one of three therapists currently practicing at Renewed Hope Counseling. I specialize in treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, and Trauma.
In 2023, I pursued training through the International OCD Foundation to specialize in the treatment of OCD using Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Exposure and Response Prevention is an evidence-based treatment, considered to be the “gold standard” treatment for OCD. Using ERP, a plan is developed to systematically confront feared obsessions and resist compulsive behaviors, reducing OCD symptoms over time.
In addition to ERP, I am also trained in Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ICBT). This, too, is an effective approach to treating OCD. This approach helps clients understand how OCD is created and maintained through specific reasoning processes. Clients also learn to dismiss obsessions and resist compulsions through ICBT.
Unfortunately, many people go 15 years or more without obtaining a proper diagnosis, and statistics show that 95-97% of OCD is missed. It is a condition that is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed, is hidden due to shame and stigma, and can co-occur with many other mental health conditions.
Furthermore, I’m trained in both Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR Therapy) and Deep Brain Reorienting therapy (DBR). Both are evidence-based treatment approaches for trauma, though these approaches differ in how they approach trauma.
EMDR helps clients reprocess difficult memories, body sensations, and belief systems stemming from trauma using Bilateral Stimulation (eye movements, tapping). DBR addresses shock sensations in the body. It is theorized that shock sensations keep a person stuck in the defensive postures (fight, flight, freeze) and intensify emotion related to trauma triggers. If shock sensations are addressed, clients notice less activation when presented with a trigger.
I am passionate about helping clients find relief and healing from their symptoms. I’m also committed to getting the word out about effective treatment approaches for these mental health conditions. Both OCD and trauma are treatable, and effective approaches exist. Healing is possible. Feel free to reach out if you have questions. You can reach our office at 217-330-6282 x 1.
