September = more opportunities to move with me.

After passing my Intermediate Practical Test, I’m officially another step closer to becoming a comprehensively certified Classical Pilates teacher. 🎉

But as I shared before, the work isn’t finished.

A big part of what comes next is continuing to build my teaching hours, which are some of the most valuable parts of this journey. Every body is different. Every session teaches me something and every client gives me another opportunity to sharpen my eye and learn how to make the Classical Pilates system work for the person in front of me.

So…I need some bodies!

My September schedule at Peachtree Pilates is open for Beginner Small Group Classes, Private Sessions, and Semi-Privates, all at the apprentice rate.

Yesterday I asked Alexa Alexa Idama for an Advanced Cadillac session.

And, well…she gave me exactly what I asked for. 😂

There were definitely moments when I questioned some of my life choices. Did I eat too much? Did I hydrate enough? Why did I ask for this? 😩😂

But somewhere between the struggle, the shaking, the corrections and the “ohhhhh, THAT’S what I’m supposed to be doing” moments, I could also see how much my practice has grown.

And that may have been my favorite part. As I continue through my Classical Pilates teacher training, I’m learning that progressing to more advanced work isn’t simply about being able to do harder exercises. It requires deeper connections, more control, greater awareness and a willingness to notice where there is still work to do.

Yesterday showed me both. I saw the strength I’ve built, felt connections that weren’t there before and found some places that clearly said, Ma’am, we still have work to do. 😂

And I’m good with that. Because the things that challenge me as a student are also helping shape me into the Pilates teacher I want to become. Every private session with Alexa gives me another opportunity to experience the system in my own body…to feel the purpose behind the exercises, understand the connections more deeply and take that knowledge with me when I teach others.

So yes, I’ll keep asking for the hard things.

I’ll keep practicing, keep learning, and making connections.

Because apparently, asking Alexa for an Advanced Cadillac session is one of the ways I’ve chosen to build character. 😂

The journey continues.

The deeper I go, the more I understand the importance of going back to the beginning.

This week in the studio gave me a little bit of both.

I spent time preparing for my Intermediate test out through practicing, refining transitions, making connections, and continuing to deepen my understanding of the Classical Pilates system.

I also had the opportunity to revisit the Beginner Reformer weekend alongside a new group of Classical Kulture teachers in training.

Yes, it’s the same exercises, but with different eyes. Coming back to the foundational work after months of training and teaching reminded me just how much there is to discover in this system. I noticed details I didn’t notice the first time. Cues landed differently and connections made more sense. Exercises that I’ve practiced countless times gave me something new to think about.

That’s one of the things I’ve grown to love most about Classical Pilates: there is always another layer.

As I continue developing as a teacher, I’m realizing that honing my craft isn’t simply about learning more advanced exercises. It’s about understanding the fundamentals more deeply. It’s practicing. Observing. Receiving corrections. Teaching. And then returning to the work again.

Every time I become a better student, I become a better teacher. Ultimately, that’s what matters to me…continuing to develop the knowledge, eye, and skill to meet the person in front of me where they are, while helping them discover greater strength, connection, confidence, and possibility in their own body.

This week was a reminder that there really is no finish line to learning this work. Intermediate practical test out loading!

But I’ll always make room to go back to the beginning.

Started my day at jury duty with a lot of sitting 🫠. Signed up for Mixed Levels as soon as I was freed because I didn’t want the body work I had done on Friday to go to waste.

Sitting for prolonged periods of time takes a great toll on the body. Grateful for movement and my favorite space to do it 🙌🏽! My goal is to age as gracefully as possible and Classical Pilates is one way that supports me on this journey!

Recovery is part of the practice, too. Today was my monthly cupping massage with Dasha at Massage Arts Studio Dasha, and apparently my lower back had some things to say. 😂 Add in some very tight quads, and there was WORK to be done.

And listen… cupping is not for the faint of heart.

But just like Pilates, I come back to my breath. I breathe through the discomfort, try not to fight what my body needs, and remind myself how much better I’m going to feel on the other side.

Dasha and I have been working together for quite a few years now, and one of the things I appreciate most about her is how well she finds the areas that need attention…sometimes before I even realize they do, and always gets me right and ready to return to my practice.

The older I get, the more I understand that taking care of my body isn’t separate from building strength. It’s part of how I stay strong.

In midlife, I want strength, but I also want mobility. I want flexibility, balance, stability, and range of motion. I want to be able to keep practicing Pilates, teaching, traveling, and doing the things I enjoy for years to come.

That means knowing when to challenge my body, and knowing when it needs recovery.

Massage. Cupping. Stretching. Pilates. Rest. Breathwork.

It all counts. Because the goal isn’t simply to have a body that can do more. I want a body that can keep moving well for a long time.

And today, recovery was exactly what mine needed.

“You have to love Pilates to teach it... and to do it consistently.” Words of wisdom from Alexa Idama

When I first heard those words, I understood them intellectually. Now, one year into my comprehensive Classical Pilates teacher training, I understand them in a completely different way.

This past Thursday, I walked into Mixed Levels after a long work week feeling stiff, mentally drained, and carrying some lower back pain. Part of me wondered how much I would be able to do. Then came the Tower with exercises and stretches creating space where I needed it most. My body began to move differently, and by the end of class, I walked away feeling stronger, more connected, and accomplished.

That’s the magic of Classical Pilates. Not every session is about pushing harder. Sometimes it’s about discovering exactly what your body needs that day. The beauty of the system is that it meets you where you are while still inviting you to become stronger than you were when you walked in.

This weekend also marks one year since I began my comprehensive teacher training journey. I not only appreciate how much I’ve learned, but excited in understanding there is it’s realizing there still is to learn. I continue to find new connections in the work. I continue to be challenged and continue to grow as both a student and a teacher. And the more I learn, the more I appreciate the brilliance of the Classical Pilates system.

I finally understand what was meant by those words. You don’t just teach Pilates because you know the exercises. You teach it because you love the process of learning, refining, and returning to the work again and again.

Here’s to one year of this teacher training journey and to a lifetime of continuing to learn.

As I wrap up my time subbing for Alexa Alexa Idama while she’s in Ethiopia leading the next generation of Classical Pilates teachers, I’m feeling incredibly grateful.

Grateful for Alexa’s trust in me to care for her clients and continue the work she’s so passionate about.

Grateful for every person who walked through the studio doors this week and allowed me to be part of their movement practice. Whether it was your first session or one of many, thank you for showing up with curiosity, commitment, and openness.

Each class reminded me that teaching Pilates is about so much more than the exercises. It’s about building relationships, creating a space where people feel seen and supported, and helping them discover what their bodies are capable of.

Every session challenged me to grow…not only as a teacher, but as a student of this work. I’m leaving this week with a deeper appreciation for the Classical Pilates lineage, for the responsibility of guiding others, and for the community that makes this work so meaningful.

To Alexa, thank you for your confidence in me. And to everyone who shared your practice with me this week, thank you for your trust. I don’t take either for granted.

Here’s to continuing to learn, to teach, and to grow one session at a time.

Saturday mornings in the studio just feel good. 🤍

I’m so grateful to everyone who showed up to move with me today in our Small Beginner and Intermediate classes. Thank you for trusting me with your practice, bringing your energy, and reminding me why I love teaching Classical Pilates.

There really is something special about starting a Saturday with intentional movement, a few laughs, a little challenge, and a community that’s cheering each other on.
