At 42, Kari McClain found a lump during a self-exam. Today, after two breast cancer diagnoses, a mastectomy and breast reconstruction, she’s cancer-free and feeling good.

Her journey wasn’t always easy. But with support from her family, friends and care team at DMH, Kari found a path forward and the confidence to keep living life on her terms.

Thanks to everyone who supported the WSOY Food Drive this week! DMH colleagues and volunteers donated 2,600 boxes of cereal & the hospital foundation presented a check for $10,000 to support local food pantries. It takes everyone working together to fight hunger in our community.

Decatur - you showed up! During our free PSA screening event with SIU Urology on Sept. 18, 94 patients were screened! Thirteen men were connected with recommended follow-up care highlighting the value of early detection and preventative health screenings.

Prevention is powerful! Thirty-seven people screened at no cost for skin cancer at a free event on August 24, thanks to the teams from Memorial Cancer Care and SIU Medicine Dermatology. Nine follow-up referrals for biopsies were recommended, highlighting the importance of early detection in improving treatment options & outcomes.
