Arion Long: Building the Maternal Health System She Needed
In 2018, Arion Long woke up in an ICU in Annapolis, Maryland, after days on life support. She had survived. Her daughter, Sage, had not.
What followed was another painful reality: the healthcare system had no clear path for supporting her through the medical and emotional aftermath of pregnancy loss.
That experience became the foundation for Sagera Health, the maternal health platform Arion founded to provide continuity of care through pregnancy, pregnancy loss, subsequent pregnancy, and postpartum recovery.
But Arion didn't stop at identifying what was missing. She listened to mothers, healthcare providers, and health systems to understand where care breaks down. That work helped shape Sagera's first platform, followed by early funding, a $10,000 pitch competition award, and a pilot reaching 4,000 patients.
Her story raises a question the healthcare industry cannot afford to ignore: What happens to mothers when a pregnancy ends, but their need for care continues?
Arion is building an answer, one designed to make sure other mothers don't have to navigate that gap alone.
