“I feel like I can breathe better.” You’d expect that kind of comment from a client, but this one came from a FasciAshi Fundamentals student during class.

So what’s happening when someone says they are breathing better after receiving barefoot massage?
🫁
A lot! Too much to put in a social media post and be thorough, but when you think about the combination of controlled pressure, tissue grip, and slow movements through the posterior and lateral tissues of the back, ribcage, and hips it’s easy to see why one might feel their breath becomes easier. Learn in class how posterior prone work also affects the front and spiral fascia lines as well as deep anterior musculature around the spine and that comment about breathing better really starts to make a lot of sense.

Sometimes students get to class not knowing exactly what they’re going to learn. This happened in my last Fundamentals class when one student exclaimed, “I didn’t know you could do neck work with your feet!” 👣 😂

She was surprised. And I was surprised that she was surprised. 🤭

We do indeed teach neck work with each class you come to. All levels of CBM classes teach neck work culminating in the Clinical Neck course. Each subsequent class builds on the skills you learned in the previous class. 🎓

Who knew? My client’s head popped up and they asked, “What’s that?” After a short discussion we figured out she could feel something I was doing when I wasn’t even touching the overhead bar. The vibration from the pillowcase rubbing against the bar was translating through my feet into their body!

Turns out the human body made of water (60%) and a lot of “impurities” like vitamins, minerals, salts, and the stuff that makes the solid parts of us is really good at conducting vibrations. 🌊 💀

💫 Let’s talk about piriformis!

A client recently asked what piriformis was attached to. And I explained while touching their body in the places it attached (sacrum and greater trochanter). Afterward, I realized my explanation was painted with a large brush and I’d forgotten the specifics.

Because client’s don’t usually ask about piriformis, they ask about whether their pain is sciatica or nerve pain or if they have a dead butt. They talk about how their body is experiencing the pain or dysfunction. I’m ready for those conversations, but to explain the specifics of exact attachments is better suited to the classroom.

So join me for a piriformis attachments and actions refresher!

Sometimes you discover something in the books that informs or changes the way you work with a particular muscle you thought you knew. 💪🏽
