September is Deaf and Hard of Hearing Awareness Month!!!

What are some common causes of hearing loss in children?

👂Congenital hearing loss (caused by a number of factors, such as prematurity or toxin exposure in utero)
👂Genetic syndromes
👂Untreated ear infections
👂Illnesses
👂Head injuries
👂Noise Exposure

How does childhood hearing loss affect development?

Hearing loss can impact the way a child learns speech and language skills. The severity and nature (e.g. temporary or permanent) of the hearing loss will determine the course of treatment.

Working closely with an audiologist and speech-language pathologist will help families along their course of chosen treatment.
