Michael Rowe Strickland, of Hartselle, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on September 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 25, 1949, in Falkville, Alabama.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Hartselle City Cemetery, with Dr. Jerome Ward and Shelton Funeral Home officiating.
Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pharmacist, pilot, and community servant. He was a third- generation pharmacist and dedicated his life to serving others through his profession. He was the President of Buy-Rite Drugs and BRDVETRX of Hartselle and was also a founding board member of Associated Pharmacies, Inc. of Scottsboro, Alabama.
Michael was a proud graduate of Auburn University, Class of 1971, where his lifelong love of Auburn began.
Michael had a deep love for his hometown and proudly served for ten years on the Hartselle City School Board, many of those years as chairman. As a pilot, he also spent many years serving on the Hartselle Airport Board.

John L. “Jack” Beasley, age 89, of Decatur, passed away September 2, 2026, at NHC Healthcare surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Scotty Hogan officiating. The family will receive friends on that day from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Interment afterwards at Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Jack was born September 28, 1936, in San Diego, California, where his father was stationed with the Navy, to John and Mildred Beasley. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, his beautiful wife of 56 years Mary Maylene Harris Beasley, son Michael Beasley, and brother Larry Beasley. He is survived by his sister Gloria Anne Beasley Faulkner, son Ron Beasley, daughter-in-law Karen Beasley, grandchildren, Spencer Beasley (Lauren), Maggie Beasley, Keller Beasley and Logan Beasley; great-grandchildren, Lawson Beasley and Ann Collins Beasley; nephews Max Beasley, Tim Beasley and David Beasley; niece Angela Griffis and special friend Bernice Bowling.

Raised in Limestone County, Jack graduated from Athens High School in 1954. Funeral service for CSM Kenneth Wyatt Pace, age 66, of Decatur, will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Brother John Danny Ricks officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home. Interment will be in Midway Memorial Gardens.

CSM Kenneth Wyatt Pace, age 66, peacefully passed away on, Saturday, August 29, 2026. He was born November 11, 1959, in Colbert County, Alabama, to Odis J. Pace and Betty Dean Lash.

Kenneth was a proud United States Army veteran who served his country and attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

Kenneth was an avid wrestling fan and enjoyed sitting in the front row whenever wrestling came to Huntsville. He was also an Alabama fan. He enjoyed selling at flea markets, traveling in his RV to different states and sightseeing, spending time with family and friends, and having coffee at McDonald’s with his Army friends.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Odis J. Pace; mother, Betty Dean Lash; and granddaughter, Brianna Leigh McGreger.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lillian Goble Pace; daughter, Carrie E. Rodgers; two granddaughters, Rose M. Rodgers and Bella I. Rodgers; two brothers, Archie King and Gary King; sister, Charolett Sweet; special friends, Joshua Rodgers and Joshua Wagster; and many other family members and friends.

Russell "Rusty" Lynn Shirah, age 64, passed away peacefully on August 27th, 2026 surrounded
by his loving family at Decatur Morgan Hospital.
Russell was born on August 15th, 1962 in Decatur, Alabama. He attended Austin High School
and made a name for himself as an electrician and construction manager which included work
for Davis Electric, Fluor, GM, and Sol Systems. His job took him around the country and was
fortunate enough to experience the beautiful landscapes of America. He loved football and was
an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Shirah and brother Vern Shirah. Survivors
include his mother, Shirley Shirah, life partner, Alison Holuska, ex-wife Jona Kittrell, his only
son, Austin Shirah, daughter-in-law, Emily Garcia, brother, Lonnie Shirah and his wife Penny
Shirah, cousin, Tina Ocampo, and nephew, Wayne Shirah.
Above all, Russell cherished his family. He will be remembered for his joy, humor, smile and the
love he shared with those closest to him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by his
friends and family.

Jerry Ray Cooper

Jerry Ray Cooper, 75, of Somerville, Alabama, passed away August 2026.

Jerry spent much of his working life in automotive manufacturing at the Saginaw/Delphi plant near Decatur before his retirement.

Jerry had a lifelong love of cars and accumulated quite a collection over the years. He was well known for his collection of tools, parts, and junk—and rarely passed through Lacon without finding something else worth bringing home. Jerry also enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.).

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Rozene Wilson Cooper Copas and Gordon Cooper, and twin siblings, Glenn and Lynn Cooper. He also leaves behind a paper trail considerably longer than this obituary.

He is survived by his three daughters, four grandchildren, six siblings, a host of nieces and nephews, and many special friendships.

Doris Diane (Thomas) Spurlock age 73, passed away peacefully in Decatur, Alabama, Thursday, August 13, 2026, as one of God's angels.

Diane was a very special person! She was born on October 9th,1952 in Alabama and grew up primarily in Michigan.

She moved back to Alabama with her parents when they retired. It wasn’t long before Diane was introduced to Terry Sprulock. The two of them fell in love, got married and shared a caring, respectful, loving life with one another and their birds.

Diane had a gentle spirit and a heart full of kindness. She found happiness in watching movies, working puzzles, and, above all, caring for Terry and those she loved. She had a quiet way of making others feel special and was deeply devoted to her family. Her love knew no bounds, and she will be remembered for the compassion, warmth, and generosity she shared so freely with everyone she met. She was also a proud member of the Westmeade Baptist Church in Decatur.

Our love for Diane has no end. Her legacy of love, compassion, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Terry Spurlock of Decatur, Alabama.
She is also survived by her siblings: Chuck and Sue Thomas of Michigan; Mary and Lanny Harrison of Texas; Larry and Jim Thomas of Michigan; and Betty Buckland and Tim Terry of Texas.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 3:30 PM until 5:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home. There will be no graveside service.

Mr. Middlebrooks passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will forever carry his love with them.

Jeff was born June 10, 1964, at Hartselle Hospital to Dwight D. Middlebrooks and Doris Brazier Middlebrooks.

From a young age, Jeff developed a passion for motorcycles and racing. He traveled throughout the country pursuing his love for the sport into his twenties. He raced both flat track and motocross, creating countless memories along the way while being sponsored by Honda.

Jeff graduated from Austin High School in 1982. He attained a junior second degree in Judo and was also an avid Alabama fan.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Dwight D. Middlebrooks; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lavern “Vern” Brazier; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Clarence Middlebrooks.

Jerre Robert Glover, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, surrounded by
family and friends.
Jerre was born on March 1, 1942 in Stevenson, Alabama. He had a great love for his
hometown and in years past he regularly attended the Depot Days celebration in
Stevenson. He left Stevenson to attend Auburn University where he earned a Building
Science degree. At Auburn, he established a foundation that would shape his entire
career and especially, his lifelong love for Auburn Tigers football.
Jerre moved to Decatur in 1970 where he would go to work for Universal Construction
Company. He was a project manager for several major jobs like Saginaw steering gear,
Von Braun Civic Center and Adtran. He would eventually be named Vice President and
served that for several years. Universal would eventually be bought out by Turner
Corporation where he served as President and CEO for several years. Jerre took great
pride in his craft, and the buildings he helped raise stand today as a testament to his
skill and dedication. After Turner, he eventually started his own General Contracting
business named Industrial Services Company where he contracted smaller jobs with
companies like Toyota. He loved his work and stayed active in it until almost the end.
What truly set Jerre apart was his heart for people. He had a rare and genuine gift for
meeting others, developing lasting connections and taking real interest in getting to
know people for who they were. This...

Diane was born December 21, 1941, in Decatur, Alabama to Robert William Grant and Helen Cheatham Grant. She retired from Sue-Jac Inc. and worked previously for Decatur Iron and Steel.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband, James Earnest Wade, Jr., her parents, and her sister, Barbara Knickman.

She is survived by her sister, Brenda Jarrett; nephew, Chuck Jarrett (Peggy); niece, Becky Leonard; and a host of great nieces and nephews.

A Graveside service will be held Monday, July 27, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Roselawn Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Alan Queen officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing.
