Janet (Jan) Hooper, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away on October 11, 2026, at the age of 89..

She is survived by her four daughters: Debbie Wood, Lisa McCrary, Michele McMillan, and Catherine Hooper. She was grandmother to five and great-grandmother to five.

She was known and will be deeply missed for her beautiful smile, love of gardening and animals, cheerfulness in never meeting a stranger, delicious baked treats, and childlike wonder and giggle. She was a Master Gardener like no other, winning ribbons annually for her magnificent entries at the Morgan
County Fair.

Here in Decatur she treasured many years with her supper club, was a long time member of the Red Hat Society and one of the oldest active serving members of the Morgan County Master Gardener Association.

Shelton Funeral Home of Decatur is assisting the family during this time.

A celebration of life drop-in will be held at a future date.

Billy Wayne Jones passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born April 14, 1952, to James Edward and Lola Earline Brown Jones in Alabama. He was a graduate of Speake High School and spent his professional career with 3M in Decatur, Alabama, where he developed many lifelong friendships before he retired.
He enjoyed spending his time gardening, fishing, and cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also devoted many years to coaching his children’s youth sports teams, creating lasting memories with his family.
He is survived by his son, Nick Jones (Hailey), and daughter, Julia Lewis (Dee); four grandsons, Evan Jones, Gabe Jones, Dylann Roper, and Josiah Roper; siblings Dallas Jones (Toni), Linda Bunnell, and Brenda Howard (Ray); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Earline Jones, and his brothers, Jimmy Jones and Jackie Jones.
Memorial Service will be Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00AM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00AM-11:00AM at the funeral home.

Douglas Harold Weatherspoon, 84, of Decatur, Alabama, peacefully passed away at home on Friday, October 9, 2026.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, to Mary Lee Wherry Weatherspoon and James Wesley Weatherspoon, Doug was a member of Decatur Church of Christ and a longtime member of Grant Street Church of Christ, where he served as an elder, song leader, and Bible class teacher for many years. He enjoyed fishing and was well known for his church fish fries, bringing people together through food and fellowship. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Carol, and his brother, James Vance Weatherspoon.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Weatherspoon; children, Laura Pannell (Daniel), Todd Weatherspoon (Melinda), and Justin Jeffreys (Fancey); 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Shelton Funeral Home in Decatur, Alabama, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, and the service at 1:00 PM, officiated by Alan Watkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Parkinson's Research, Childhaven, or Potter Children's Home.
The family extends special thanks to Brandy at Lystra, as well as SouthernCare Hospice and Right at Home of Decatur.

Naomi Mae Funari, age 83, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026, at her residence.

She was born September 15, 1943 in Maryland to Hilda Stifflner and James Wisner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Susan Francis, and her siblings.

She is survived by her husband, Anthony Stanley Funari; her daughters, Brenda Funari and Gina Wilhem; her son, Stanley (Smokey) Funari; her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She loved her family, giving to thrift stores, watching horror movies and her cats.

Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

She was born on July 24,1948 in Florence Alabama to Audrey Ray Cobb and Katherine Melba Cobb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother: Kenneth Wayne Cobb.

Linda is survived by her daughters: Patricia Gail Wood and Tina Davis (Steve); sister, Mary Bontrager; brother, Gary Cobb;
Grandchildren: Justin Martindale (Liz) Danielle Harville (Paxton) and Trevor Davis

She loved Jesus, was always reading her bible and watching preaching on tv. She loved her family. She loved riding and training horses, going on trail rides and going to horse shows.

Our daddy, Bryce L Long, aged 84, passed away at his home on Sunday, October 4, 2026. His passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by family.
Born on Easter Sunday, April 19, 1942, in Boaz, AL to Orbie and Verlon Long, Bryce lived a full life that involved his family, friends, and several occupations over his many years. He was a loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather as well as a loyal friend with a sense of humor and plenty of words of wisdom or caution.
Bryce was born on Easter Sunday in 1942, and this caused some exasperation from his oldest sister, Faye as she had a new dress for services. However, Bryce was born that morning, and she didn’t get to go to church that day and wear the new dress. These are the anecdotal stories that followed him throughout his life. He was known for his sense of humor, irritating pranks and jokes, generally at the expense of his brother, sisters and those with whom he worked. He will be remembered from these antics on the police force and his over-the-road trucking days.
Bryce loved Harley Davidson motorcycles and was one of the first motorcycle patrol officers on the Decatur City Police. We heard quite a few hair-raising and funny stories along the years of he and his buddies on the patrol bikes. Diana Ramsey Russell-Schulz, 69, of Decatur, Alabama, where she made her home with her beloved husband, Carl Schulz, moved to her Heavenly home at 2:42 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Diana was diagnosed with lung cancer in March 2025 and had been responding successfully to treatment. In the weeks preceding her passing, she began experiencing a fluid buildup in her lung and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. During that time, doctors discovered an infection affecting her heart. Over the following days, Diana experienced cardiac arrest and ultimately passed away from heart failure.

Diana, was born on February 20, 1957, in Middlesboro, Kentucky, to Ewing and Juanita Ramsey. She spent her early years in Tazewell, Tennessee, and graduated from Tazewell High School in 1975.

Education would become not only Diana’s profession, but one of the great passions of her life. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee, in 1979, and her Master of Education degree from East Tennessee State University in 1990.

For 33 years, Diana devoted her life to educating children from kindergarten through fifth grade. Although not having children of her own, she did far more than teach lessons from books—she loved her students, encouraged them, believed in them, and considered the many children who passed through her classrooms to be, in a very...

John Michael Bormann passed away September 28, 2026 at 77 years old. He died at home with his cousin after having battling with congestive heart failure.

John was born on Long Island and grew up in Patchogue. He enlisted in the navy after graduation. He was stationed in California, then transferred to Pensacola, FL to work with The Blue Angels. After being discharged, he got a degree in Police Science from Suffolk Community College on Long Island. He worked for the Suffolk County Police Department and became a sergeant in 1987. After retiring in 2000, he moved to North Carolina, then to Athens.

John enjoyed golfing, fishing, yard work, and crossword puzzles.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Jane. He is survived by his son John Michael Jr. (Monica) and daughter Jennifer Gleason (Joseph.), as well as four grandchildren: Benjamin, Cody, Addison, and Dylan.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel on October 6, 2026 at 11:00am, with full Military Honors to follow the service. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am at the funeral home.

James O. Putney, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother,
peacefully passed away on September 26, 2026. His life was one marked by quiet strength, deep
love for his family, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.
Born with a generous heart and a steady spirit, James shared 60 years of marriage with his
beloved wife, Freida M. Putney, who preceded him in death on July 2, 2024. Their partnership
was a foundation of love, resilience, and family devotion that continues to echo through the
generations they raised together.
James is survived by his five children: James Lee Putney, Jerry Putney (Tisa), Pennie Strickland
(Jonathan), David Putney, and Lisa Ford (Cory), fourteen grandchildren: Kirsten Hibner,
Brittany Cavicchioni, Jeri Brees (Jason), Bryon Putney, Kirkland Roberts (Kaylen), Connor
Putney, James Reid Putney, Braden Sanders, Anna Sanders, Addie Grace Sanders, Dylan Putney,
Blake James (Kaylee), Anthony James (Symoné) and Madison Ford, and by nine
greatgrandchildren: Liam Hibner, Everly Hibner, Bella Cavicchioni, Kaiwren Brees, Preston
James, Brynleigh James, Ka’liyah James, Kade Roberts, and Kenleigh Roberts, each carrying
forward pieces of his character, his work ethic, his gentleness, his curiosity, and his love of the
