Riverside Community Care We provide resources and services for mental healthcare, substance use, crisis management, & more. We make a difference – locally, every day.

Each year Riverside Community Care provides more than 40,000 children, adolescents, and adults with a broad range of behavioral healthcare and human services. We offer mental healthcare, developmental and brain injury services, youth and early childhood programs, addiction treatment, trauma response, and more. And our work includes partnerships with local hospitals, physicians, and schools. You can count on Riverside when you or someone you know needs help. We take your trust seriously and work hard to make a difference by delivering compassionate, locally-based, integrated care.

🍎 Little hands, big apples, and lots of fall fun🍂

Recently, Riverside Early Head Start families and staff headed to Brooksby Farm in Peabody for an exciting apple-picking adventure. Our tiny apple pickers took their taste-testing duties very seriously! It was a wonderful day of exploring, spending time together, and making sweet fall memories.

Early Head Start is a free home-visiting program that supports families with infants, toddlers, and expectant parents in Cambridge, Somerville, and surrounding towns through home visits and group events. Riverside CONNECT (Building Community Networks for Education, Collaboration, and Training) is a new two-year initiative funded through the Office of Behavioral Health Promotion and Prevention exploring an important and often complex intersection: domestic violence/intimate partner violence (DV/IPV) and su***de risk.

Through community engagement, training, and cross-system collaboration, we’ll work with professionals and organizations across Worcester, Fall River, New Bedford, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard to build knowledge, strengthen connections, and improve coordinated responses.

And we want to hear from the community as we build this work.

We’ve launched a brief needs assessment to better understand current knowledge, experiences, gaps, and training needs. We especially welcome input from professionals working in behavioral health, DV/IPV services, su***de prevention, healthcare, public health, schools, community-based organizations, and other systems serving these communities. We also want to ensure that the perspectives of LGBTQ+ communities, survivors, youth and families, and other populations whose experiences may be underrepresented are reflected in this work.

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and the deadline was recently extended to October 16. Please consider filling out the survey and sharing it with colleagues and community partners who can help inform this work. Thank you.

On Monday, October 5, more than 200 people joined us for one of our favorite nights of the year: the annual CARE Awards. CARE stands for Celebrating Achievement and Recognizing Excellence, and this year's 12 honorees show what that looks like: people we serve who took on challenges and gained independence, employees who step up and make a difference, and two friends who have stood by Riverside: a longtime community partner and our outgoing Board Chair.

Congratulations to our honorees, and thank you to everyone who joined us. We left feeling grateful for this community.

We’re pleased to share that Riverside Community Care and Bay State Community Services will join together effective January 1, 2027, strengthening access to high-quality, community-based behavioral healthcare and human services across Massachusetts.

With adjacent service areas and complementary programs, coming together will create new opportunities for collaboration and coordinated care across eastern, central, and southeastern Massachusetts.

The combined organization will operate under the Riverside Community Care name, while Bay State Community Services’ programs will continue to serve the communities and people who rely on them. There will be no interruption to services, and individuals and families will continue to access care through the programs and locations they currently use.

Together, we will build on the strengths of both organizations to enhance care, deepen community partnerships, and better meet the evolving needs of those we serve.

Riverside’s CARE Awards celebrate our community and will honor 12 people served, friends, and employees for their dedication, resilience, and achievements.

This year’s ceremony will be held on Monday, October 5th, at the Newton Marriott. Attendees will enjoy light refreshments from 5:00 to 6:00 pm before the program starts at 6:00.

Loneliness is a public health crisis, and it often goes unnoticed. Each year, Riverside provides community-based care to more than 40,000 children and adults, our friends, neighbors, and loved ones. Encouraging connection and reducing isolation is part of that work.

As National Recovery Month continues, Riverside remains committed to celebrating the strength, resilience, and hope that define recovery journeys.

Our innovative NC-8 Recovery Coaching Program connects individuals with substance use challenges to trained peer support professionals from our Connect2Recovery program. Our Recovery Coaches provide compassionate, personalized guidance rooted in real-world experience rather than clinical expertise. This peer-to-peer model creates authentic connections that reduce stigma and isolation while fostering hope and accountability.
