We love our CNAs! CNA Week is all about celebrating the incredible people who bring compassion, comfort and support to our residents every day. (See the great poem below!)

While we're having lots of fun this week, we're also taking time to grow our knowledge and skills. Thank you to our Wound Care Nurse Practitioner, Alex, NP, for stopping by to refresh our CNAs on wound care and treatment.

We appreciate the opportunity to keep learning while celebrating all that our CNAs do!

Who are you to refer to us
As "Only" a CNA?
We're the ones who wash and dress
Our patients for the day.

We're the ones who take the time
To listen to them speak.
We listen about their lifetime
In a forty hour week.

We also give our hands to hold
When someone's feeling scared.
It's not easy being a patient;
You're never quite prepared.

We take the time to listen
By lending both our ears.
We listen to their worries
Or how they've spent their years.

Our arms were made to reach
And even wrap around.
To give our patients hugs
When they're feeling a little down.

We help our patients do the things
They used to do on their own.
Everybody needs some help,
Even when we're grown.

So who are you to refer to us
As "only" a CNA?
We do our best to meet their needs
Within our working day.

We chose to do this job;
The job did not choose us.
We sympathize and empathize;
Compassion is a must.

We try to keep them comfortable
And free of any fear.
We sit along beside them
When that time is near.

We hold their hand, stroke their hair,
Just making sure they know.
They're not alone, an aide is there.
It's okay for them to go.

To all the CNAs,
keep your head held high,
We're not "only" CNAs.

We’re celebrating our “Unbelievable” CNAs this CNA Week (theme from the National Association of Health Care Assistants)! 💥

A crowd favorite game has been our unique take on Rock, Paper, Scissors. Each CNA started their shift with four beads and then went around spontaneously competing with colleagues. Win the round, take a bead. Lose, give one up. By the end of the shift, the CNA with the most beads would win.

Congrats to first place winner, Vera and runner-up, Megan! 🏆

Please welcome our new Assistant Director of Nursing, Tiffiney Castro, RN, MSN! 👋

Tiffiney has been a nurse for nine years and chose long-term care as the next step in her nursing career, where she can build close relationships, broaden her experience and make a positive impact. She looks forward to getting to know all our residents and their families!

Outside of work, Tiffiney enjoys being outdoors, traveling and spending time with her family. She's been married for 18 years and has two boys and two dogs. 🥰

Tiffiney has already been a great addition to the team, and we're so happy she's here! Excited for what's ahead!

Time together is a gift, and it was our greatest honor to grant resident Marian Haygood's wish to share one last dinner with her daughter, Marianne.

Tracy from Compassus Hospice of DeKalb thoughtfully decorated the Heartland Room with flowers, special touches and a bouquet of roses for Marian. Before dinner, Marianne surprised her mother with several gifts as well, including a t-shirt printed with a photo of Marian's mother, a truly touching tribute to the family memories they share.

Thanks to the generosity of Texas Roadhouse, mother and daughter enjoyed a meal of BBQ pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, green beans and apple juice. Our kitchen team also ensured Marian's meal was prepared to meet her dietary needs.

Thank you to Texas Roadhouse, Compassus and everyone who helped make this special visit possible. What a blessing for Marian and Marianne to enjoy uninterrupted time together. 🥹
