A new academic year brings new classes, new routines, new relationships—and sometimes new challenges. ❤️🐾

As you settle into the semester, it can also be the perfect time to make space for yourself. Therapy can offer a place to manage stress, navigate change, strengthen relationships, and better understand yourself.

Start the year by investing in your well-being. The CFTC Clinic is here to support you along the way.

New year. New beginnings. You don’t have to do it alone.

One of the most exciting shifts I see in our CFTC students is when they stop asking, “What’s the diagnosis?” and start asking, “What is this person’s story?”

Case conceptualization is more than identifying symptoms or selecting interventions. It is the process of organizing a client’s experiences into a meaningful framework that helps us understand how problems developed, what keeps them going, and where change becomes possible.

At the CFTC, our students learn to move beyond checklists. They ask questions such as:

• What patterns are repeating across this person’s relationships?
• How do culture, family, and social context shape their experience?
• What strengths have allowed them to survive?
• What emotions, beliefs, and interactional cycles maintain the current difficulties?
• What does healing look like for this client—not just according to a manual?

A good conceptualization is never about fitting a client into a theory. It’s about allowing theory to illuminate the uniqueness of the person sitting across from us.

Before treatment planning comes understanding. Before interventions come curiosity.

That is where meaningful therapy begins.
