Happy Workforce Wednesday! This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re recognizing the pride and purpose people with disabilities bring to their work.

There’s a difference between simply getting the job done and taking pride in doing it well, and that difference doesn’t go unnoticed.

At Ohio Living Sarah Moore, Tuesday sees that drive firsthand. Alpha clients approach their work with focus and purpose while bringing an energy that puts smiles on the faces of staff and residents around them.

That impact is exactly what NDEAM celebrates: people having the opportunity to show what they’re capable of, take pride in their work, and become a meaningful part of the community around them.

Because when people are given the opportunity to contribute, they don’t just fill a role, they add something to it.

For Betty and the Laundry and Housekeeping team at Ohio Living Sarah Moore, it looks like having coworkers they can count on.

The Alpha team shows up ready to work, brings a great attitude, and adds a little extra brightness to the day for staff and residents alike. In Betty’s words, she’d be “lost without the Alpha team,” a powerful reminder of what NDEAM celebrates: inclusive employment isn’t simply about creating an opportunity. It’s about recognizing the real value people with disabilities bring once they’re given that opportunity.

That’s the kind of workforce we love seeing in action.

The services funded by the DCBDD levy support our mission to support, empower and champion individuals on their path to success!

DCBDD Levy Fact: What services are funded?

Local levy dollars help fund a range of services and supports for people with developmental disabilities throughout their lives, including:
- Early Intervention: Coaching and developmental supports for infants and toddlers with developmental delays, helping children build skills and supporting families.
- Personal care and daily living: Assistance with everyday activities such as bathing, getting dressed, preparing meals, and toileting.
- Employment supports: Skills training, on-site job coaching, and assistance with maintaining employment.
- Home accessibility and safety: Modifications such as ramps, transfer lifts, and vehicle hand controls.
- Transportation and community participation: Supports that help people access transportation, participate in community activities, and stay connected.

With the right supports, people with developmental disabilities can:
- Live personally fulfilling lives
- Work in local businesses
- Volunteer in the community
- Participate in recreation and civic life

These supports promote independence while strengthening families and the broader community.
