May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month ☀️🩺

Did you know that skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States? The good news: it is also one of the most preventable.

One of the best things you can do for your health is establish care with a Dermatologist before any concerns arise. As we age, our skin changes, and having a specialist who knows your skin can make all the difference in spotting changes early.

Annual skin exams are an important part of preventive care. If you notice a new spot, a changing mole, or anything unusual, do not wait to get it checked.

Take care of your skin today — find a Dermatologist and schedule your annual skin check. Early detection matters! ☀️

🔍 Know the ABCDEs of Skin Cancer Detection

Early detection can save lives! Regular skin checks are one of the best ways to spot warning signs of melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer.

Remember the ABCDEs:
A — Asymmetry: one half of the mole doesn’t match the other
B — Border: edges are irregular, ragged, or blurred
C — Color: multiple colors or uneven shades appear within the spot
D — Diameter/Dark: larger than 6mm or noticeably darker than other moles
E — Evolving: changes in size, shape, color, or symptoms like itching or bleeding

If you notice any of these signs or see a spot that looks unusual, don’t ignore it. Schedule an appointment with a board-certified dermatologist for a professional evaluation.

Your skin is worth checking! 💙

☀️ Summer Sun Safety Starts with Sunscreen ☀️

Protecting your skin today can help prevent serious damage tomorrow. The FDA has approved sunscreen to help protect against the sun’s harmful UV rays — reducing the risk of sunburn, skin cancer, and premature aging like wrinkles and age spots.

When choosing a sunscreen, look for:
✔️ Broad-Spectrum Protection (UVA & UVB)
✔️ SPF 30 or Higher
✔️ Water Resistance (80 Minutes)

Don’t forget to reapply every 2 hours — especially after swimming or sweating. Your skin deserves protection all summer long. 💛

☀️ May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month ☀️

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, and early detection can make all the difference!

Not all skin cancers look the same — they can appear in many shapes, sizes, and even resemble non-cancerous skin conditions. That’s why regular skin checks and paying attention to changes in your skin are so important.

If you notice anything unusual, do not wait to speak with your doctor.

At SFPTI, our board-certified radiation oncologists are committed to providing advanced, compassionate cancer care tailored to every patient.
