Being told your prostate cancer is "low risk" is reassuring, but how sure can you be? According to Harvard Medicine, 10 to 15% of cases that look low risk turn out to be more aggressive than the standard workup suggested. The good news is that newer tools can help confirm the picture before you choose a treatment path.

Additional testing of low-risk prostate cancer patients to rule out hidden aggressive disease can boost confidence in choosing a treatment tailored to the patient’s needs.

Is the PSA test really the best way to screen for prostate cancer? Not by itself. A high PSA is suspicious, but it can be raised by many ordinary things, including an enlarged prostate, an infection, even a recent bike ride, so on its own it can't tell you whether a biopsy is truly needed. The screening pathway is evolving to answer that question more precisely.

A high PSA used to mean an automatic biopsy but the screening pathway has changed. Today, mpMRI and biomarkers give doctors and patients far more accurate information before any needle is involved.

For men with low- to intermediate-risk prostate cancer, choosing between active surveillance and nerve-sparing surgery has real consequences for daily life. A new study in BJU International finds that active surveillance significantly outperforms nerve-sparing prostatectomy when it comes to preserving both sexual and urinary function, reinforcing that for the right patient, waiting and watching remains a very valid choice.

The connection between alcohol and cancer has been established, but not all drinks carry the same risk. One study found that heavy beer consumption in particular was associated with increased risk of aggressive prostate cancer. Wine, on the other hand, was associated with some protection. If you're a beer drinker and prostate cancer is on your radar, this is worth reading.

Too much beer is linked with aggressive prostate cancer.

When men were offered free PSA screening in Scotland, sessions booked up almost immediately. The demand speaks to something important: men want to know, and they'll show up when access is made easy. The new early detection program in Edinburgh is a meaningful step — and a reminder of how much ground there is to cover in making prostate cancer screening available to more men.

The first public prostate cancer testing sessions in Edinburgh as part of the newly launched Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative are underway this weekend (Friday, April 17 – Sunday, April 19), fol…

The online marketplace for testosterone products is booming, but is it serving men well? A new commentary in Medical News Today traces how social media influencers and direct-to-consumer clinics have turned low testosterone into a cultural identity, not just a clinical diagnosis. For men navigating real hormone health concerns, separating legitimate treatment from marketing is important, and worth a conversation with your physician.

Social media's portrayal of low testosterone transforms masculinity into a marketable issue, linking health interventions to male identity and performance.
