Historic courthouse bell unveiled as Habersham marks America 250

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. — Rain forced Habersham County to scale back its America 250 celebration Saturday, but it couldn’t dampen a ceremony honoring the nation’s independence and preserving a century of local history.

Organizers canceled the community celebration that was to include free food, inflatables and family activities, but proceeded with a patriotic ceremony outside the Habersham County Courthouse that featured the unveiling of the county’s restored historic courthouse bell, the dedication of a Liberty Tree and recognition of a 104-year-old Pearl Harbor survivor.
