Why was I logged in and learning at 6:45 this morning?

Because my patients deserve a therapist who never stops learning.

While most people were just starting their day, I was already diving into Autumn Henning’s TOTS Training Gold Edition. Over the next two days, I’ll be immersed in the latest research, clinical techniques, and evidence based treatment approaches for tethered oral tissues.

I have been blessed to do what I love for more than three decades, and one thing has never changed. I am always a student first. I never want to rely on what I learned years ago when new research and better treatment strategies are continually emerging.

Every course I take, every lecture I attend, and every expert I learn from has one purpose: to provide the highest level of care possible for the children and adults who trust me with their therapy.

I also have to give a huge thank you to my amazing neighbors for letting me take over their house all day while I complete this training. They graciously opened their home so I could have a quiet space to learn without interruptions, and I am so grateful for their kindness and generosity. It truly takes a village, and today I was reminded how blessed I am by the people God has placed in my life.

I believe the best therapists are the ones who stay curious, ask questions, challenge themselves, and never settle for “good enough.”

That’s why I was online before sunrise today.

Because when your family walks through my door, I want you to know you’re receiving care from someone who is just as passionate about learning as she is about helping you succeed. 💚

‘Oh, they just snore a little”.

I hear that all the time.

The truth is, snoring is never normal. It’s your body’s way of telling you that airflow is being restricted. While not everyone who snores has sleep apnea, snoring should never be ignored.

Poor quality sleep can affect so much more than just feeling tired. It can impact attention, learning, mood, behavior, heart health, and overall quality of life in both children and adults.

As a speech pathologist who specializes in myofunctional therapy, I look beyond the snore. I help identify oral and facial muscle patterns, breathing habits, tongue posture, and swallowing function that may be contributing to airway challenges. Therapy is often an important part of a collaborative treatment plan alongside your physician, ENT, dentist, orthodontist, or sleep specialist.

If you or your child snores regularly, don’t brush it off as “normal.”

Your body is trying to tell you something.

Listen. ❤️

As you celebrate today, remember that holidays are full of opportunities to build speech and language skills—without your child even realizing they’re learning!

Try talking about:
🎇 The colors you see (“red,” “white,” “blue”)
🎆 The sounds you hear (“boom,” “pop,” “crackle”)
🍉 Favorite foods and traditions
⭐ Taking turns sharing what you’re most thankful for this year

The best language learning happens during everyday moments spent together.

Happy 4th of July 🇺🇸✨🧨

Confession… I can’t unsee mouth breathing. 😂

At the grocery store.
At church.
In restaurants.
At the airport.

Once you’re a myofunctional therapist, you notice it everywhere.

But here’s the thing… mouth breathing isn’t just a habit. It can be a sign that something isn’t working the way it should. It may be connected to poor sleep, snoring, dry mouth, orthodontic relapse, speech differences, swallowing challenges, and even facial growth in children.

So yes… I notice it.

Not because I’m judging.

Because I know how life changing healthy nasal breathing can be.

Now tell me… after following this page, have you started noticing mouth breathing everywhere too? 👀😂

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads, papas, and father figures! 💚

Did you know that “dada” is often one of a child’s first words? Because the /d/ sound develops early and is easy for little mouths to produce. Many children proudly call for Dad before they can say much else.

Those first words are more than milestones—they’re the beginning of connection, communication, and countless conversations to come.

Today we celebrate the dads who read the bedtime stories, cheer on every new word, and help their little voices grow. 💚

Happy Father’s Day from our speech therapy family to yours!
