Donald Ray White

Donald Ray White

December 9, 1939 – June 1, 2026

Donald Ray White was born on December 9, 1939, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Charley A. White and Ruby Mae White. He was raised on a cattle ranch in Bald Hill, Oklahoma, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for agriculture, livestock, and the outdoors. He graduated from Twin Hills High School and went on to attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and then to Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma.

In 1960, while driving around with a friend, Don noticed a U.S. Navy recruitment poster that would ultimately change the course of his life. He enlisted in the United States Navy and earned his wings in 1962. During his military service, he completed two tours aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk and accumulated more than 100 carrier landings while flying the Grumman E-1B Tracer, affectionately known as the "Willie Fudd," an airborne radar surveillance aircraft. Don served with distinction and was honorably discharged in 1965 with the rank of Lieutenant.

While stationed in Pensacola, Florida, Don met the love of his life, Sandra Lou White. The two were married on October 7, 1961, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, beginning a partnership that would span more than six decades.

Following his naval service, Don, Sandra, and their young son moved to Farmers Branch, Texas, where Don joined Braniff International Airways in 1965. Based at Dallas Love Field in Dallas, Texas, he built a successful aviation career and later became a Captain flying the Boeing 727. In 1972, the family relocated to Krum, Texas, where Don pursued another passion by establishing a Simmental cattle operation that eventually encompassed more than 1,000 acres, approximately 300 head of cattle, and 10 Quarter Horses. He took early retirement from Braniff in 1982 as a respected airline captain.

Never one to slow down, Don combined his entrepreneurial spirit with his love of automobiles by opening Don White Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Ardmore, Oklahoma, in 1982. He successfully owned and operated the dealership for a decade before selling the business in 1992. Don and his family then returned to North Texas, settling in Denton, where he continued investing in real estate and pursuing his many interests.

Don was an avid fisherman, hunter, cattleman, and horseman. He possessed a remarkable curiosity about the world and was known as a gifted storyteller, philosopher, engineer, mentor, and friend. His wisdom, humor, and generosity left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and family man whose greatest pride was the life he built with Sandra and their family.

Don passed away on June 1, 2026. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his son, Donald R. White, Jr. and wife Anne; his daughter, Sonja Morrell; his grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

His legacy of service, hard work, integrity, and love for family will continue to live on in the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, June 8, 2026 in the chapel of Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton, TX.

Pattilyn Smith

Pattilyn Gouner Smith, 71, of Denton, Texas, passed away on May 19, 2026.

Pattilyn or as the auto-voice at her Walgreens Pharmacy would call her “paa-TYE-land”, succumbed to the complications of lung disease after five years of intensive treatments.

Patti was born to Dorothy and Ray Gouner at St Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur Tx, the third of four siblings; Clifford Gouner, Meredith Avilez, and Rene Cozad. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

Patti graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and was a member of First Baptist Church of Port Arthur, Tx. She attended Baylor University and Lamar University before marrying Norman, her husband of 49 years, in August 1976. She and Norman welcomed three daughters into this world, Katie, Kristen, and Kelli.

After relocating to north Texas, Patti enrolled at the University of North Texas, graduating with a Honors Degree in Accounting the same year as her oldest graduated high school. As an honors graduate, Patti was offered a position with US Customs. She proudly served with the Inspector General’s office of US Customs until 9/11 when the Department of Homeland Security was created. She was a founding member of the DHS OIG, traveling extensively to uncover and document waste, fraud, and abuse of federal funds. She was deployed to many FEMA field locations including several months in the response to Hurricane Katrina. Best known by her colleagues for her strict adherence to the rule of law during audits, she garnered several awards for excellence at DHS. She retired from Federal Service after 20+ years.

Patti followed her mother in a passion for collecting primitive antique furniture and folk art. Though she was allergic to animal hair, she immensely enjoyed the company of many pets over the years. She was equally passionate in her politics, refusing to let her illnesses stop her from voting in all elections.

She is remembered by her family for her dedication, generosity, kindness, compassion, stubbornness, humor, and love. She loved having her husband, children, and grandchildren together and humored our wild ideas or silliness. A champion of the underdog, either in sports or life, she was the biggest supporter and advocate for her family. She was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

In memory of Patti, please consider making a donation to Lone Star Dog Ranch and Dog Ranch Rescue in Anna, Texas in place of flowers.

A come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held on June 13, 2026 at The Stony Schoolhouse (13943 Old Stoney Rd, Ponder, TX 76259) from 2-5pm. Please join us for a casual time to share stories and remember Patti’s life.

William Anthony Reid

William Anthony “Tony” Reid passed away peacefully at home, on the morning of May 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with ALS.

Tony was born in 1969 in Fort Worth, Texas. He spent his childhood growing up in Fort Worth, Lubbock, and Tyler before eventually settling in Denton to complete his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Texas. After graduation, he started a small landscaping business that would eventually become known as “The Lawn Service.”

For more than 30 years, Tony did far more than care for lawns — he built lasting relationships with the families he served. To many of his clients, he became not only someone they trusted, but also a dear friend.

Tony was a constant learner, a gifted storyteller, an artist, and a passionate collector. He will be remembered for his creativity, generous spirit, wicked sense of humor, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him.

Tony is survived by his beloved children, Merrily and Will; his parents, Ross and Le Reid; his brother, Chris Reid and wife, Jennie; his sisters, Amanda Krafft and Caroline Boyd.

Among all of Tony’s accomplishments, nothing meant more to him than his children. Merrily and Will are a beautiful reflection of their father in so many ways. Merrily shares Tony’s gift for storytelling and easy conversation, while Will inherited his dad’s love for collecting the unusual and unexpected. Both carry forward Tony’s creativity and his special way of seeing meaning in the things others might overlook.

There will never be another Tony. He lived life in his own unique way and left a lasting mark on the people and places around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him, and he will be lovingly remembered always.

We are planning on having a celebration of life as soon as Will completes boot camp. Please check back and we would love for everyone to attend in July.
