With ozone and wildfire smoke affecting air quality across parts of Colorado, it’s important to take a few extra precautions to protect your child’s health, especially if they have asthma or another lung condition.

Before heading outside, check local air quality conditions and consider moving longer or more strenuous activities indoors when air quality is poor. Watch for symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, chest tightness or trouble breathing. If your child has asthma, be sure to follow their asthma action plan and seek medical care if symptoms worsen or do not improve.

HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s and National Jewish Health are committed to helping Colorado families keep kids healthy and breathing easier.

Kindergarten graduation looked a little different for Grayson this year — but our colleagues made sure it was just as special. 🎓

Because Grayson was hospitalized on graduation day, our colleagues came together to create a celebration of his own. Our facility dogs, Lemon and Posey, even joined the festivities to help make the day more memorable.

From the cap and gown to the proud smiles and four-legged guests, it was a joyful reminder of what can happen when caring people come together.

Please join our colleagues, Lemon and Posey in congratulating Grayson on his kindergarten graduation!

We’re proud to celebrate national recognition for maternity care at HCA HealthONE Presbyterian St. Luke’s and HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s.

For the fifth consecutive year, our hospitals have been named to Newsweek’s America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2026 list, alongside HCA HealthONE Rose.

As home to Level IV maternal care and a Level IV NICU under one roof, we are able to care for moms and babies across every stage of the journey — from routine deliveries to high-risk pregnancies and advanced neonatal needs.

This recognition reflects more than an award. Being named to Newsweek’s America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2026 list speaks to the extraordinary expertise, compassion and heart our maternity and neonatal teams bring to every family they serve. They show up each day ready to care for both mom and baby with skill, empathy and unwavering commitment when it matters most.

Colorado’s heat wave is expected to continue, and children can be affected by heat faster than adults — especially infants and young children who may not be able to tell us when they do not feel well.

“Kids are not always going to say, ‘I’m too hot’ or ‘I don’t feel right,’” said Dr. Karen Woolf, medical director of pediatric emergency services at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s. “It’s important for parents and caregivers to watch for changes in behavior, energy level, breathing, hydration and temperature during extreme heat.”

Watch for signs that your child may be getting overheated, including:
• Unusual sleepiness, fussiness or confusion
• Fast breathing or breathing that seems deeper than normal
• Headache, nausea or vomiting
• Intense thirst or not urinating for several hours
• Elevated body temperature, flushed skin, muscle cramps or weakness

Help children stay safer by keeping them in cool spaces when possible, offering fluids often, dressing them in loose, lightweight clothing and never leaving a child in a parked car — even for a few minutes.

If you are unsure what symptoms mean or whether your child needs care, call our Consult-A-Nurse line at 844-706-8773 for guidance.

If symptoms are severe, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. Learn more about our pediatric-specific emergency room: https://bit.ly/4wEFVC7

When a child is in the hospital, families should be able to focus on what matters most: being by their side.

That’s the heart behind Chloe's Cupboard, a nonprofit created in loving memory of Chloe Stevenson, who received care at HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children’s.

Since December 2022, Chloe’s Cupboard has supported families throughout our hospital with complimentary snacks, drinks, microwavable meals and treats available 24/7. They also help our Child Life team provide toys and activities for patients of all ages.

Most recently, Chloe’s Cupboard delivered 100 snack boxes filled with grab-and-go items for families facing unexpected admissions, long procedures or moments when stepping away from the bedside just isn’t possible.

To Katey Stevenson, Chloe’s Cupboard and everyone who supports this beautiful mission: thank you for bringing comfort, kindness and care to our patients and families. Chloe’s legacy continues to shine brightly here!

Need a for the school year? A sports physical helps determine whether your child can safely take part in activities like sports, cheerleading and playing in a marching band. 🏆 Many schools, recreational leagues and other organizations require a sports physical each year.

During the visit, a clinician will review your child’s medical history and complete a physical exam to look for any health concerns that could be affected by physical activity.

With more than 370 urgent care clinics across our HCA Healthcare network of care, getting your child’s sports physical is simple and convenient. No appointment needed — just walk into a nearby urgent care location: https://bit.ly/4vXhBM0.

🎆 Planning to celebrate with fireworks this ? Start with these safety tips.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, fireworks-related injuries send thousands of people to emergency rooms each year and burns account for a significant share of those injuries.

Serious burns need care right away. Our emergency room is ready to evaluate and begin treatment quickly — and if more advanced burn care is needed, we can connect you to specialized services across our broader HCA Healthcare network, including 11 American Burn Association -recognized burn centers across nine states.

⚽ Soccer is one of the world's most popular sports, but it also comes with injury risks.

Did you know girls are much more likely than boys to tear an ACL? In fact, female high school athletes are three to six times more likely to suffer this serious knee injury. The good news? Many ACL injuries can be prevented with the right training and conditioning.

Dr. Brooke Pengel, a pediatric orthopedic specialist with HCA HealthONE Rocky Mountain Children's, explains the most common soccer injuries, why they happen, and what athletes, parents, and coaches can do to help prevent them.

Whether you're cheering on your favorite FIFA team or watching your child play this season, it's a great reminder that injury prevention starts before the game begins.
