Survival mode is often misunderstood because many people experiencing it still look โhigh functioning.โ
But survival mode can look like masking identity, emotional numbness, hyper-independence, overworking, people-pleasing, hypervigilance, or feeling unsafe enough to never fully rest.
As we move through Pride Month, Menโs Mental Health Month, PTSD Awareness Month, Juneteenth, and National Immigrant Heritage Month, this is a reminder that lived experiences, discrimination, trauma, generational pressure, and systemic stress impact nervous systems differently across communities.
Support in survival mode is not about pushing harder, itโs about creating micro-moments of safety: slowing down, reducing demands where possible, and reconnecting to your body in small, doable ways.
Awareness matters. Compassion matters. Safety matters. ๐ซถ
