"As a preventive medicine physician, my passion is to help my patients prevent chronic disease and live healthy lives. Having worked in public health implementing programs to manage and prevent heart disease, stroke, and diabetes, I realize the importance of obesity treatment. Medicine has so much more to offer patients to help them lose weight now, and it is a very exciting time for physicians like me who are enthusiastic about helping patients manage their obesity safely and effectively, and long term."

Internal medicine physicians are the largest single group of ABOM diplomates, and the American College of Physicians (ACP) 2025–2026 Annual Report shows several examples of this connection between the two disciplines. Of note, in the "Upholding Excellence in Clinical Knowledge and Professional Standards" section of the report, ACP highlights new research from ABOM Diplomate John Batsis, MD on the effect of obesity medications on body composition, which was among the featured, must-read work presented at the Internal Medicine Meeting 2026.
