🚗 Car seat safety, simplified.

1️⃣ Rear-facing infant seat — from birth until your child hits YOUR seats specific height or weight limits. Typically 30-32 lbs or 30-32 inches. It is safe for an infant to start off in a convertible, 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 car seat from birth.

2️⃣ Rear-facing convertible seat — once they outgrow the infant seat, move to a convertible car seat and STAY rear-facing until they reach YOUR seat’s max height and weight limits. Typically 40-50 lbs and 40-43 inches. Most kids are between 3-4 years old.

3️⃣ Forward-facing convertible seat
only once they’ve maxed out rear-facing limits. Keep them harnessed as long as YOUR seat allows once again. Typically 65 lbs and 49 inches. You can also opt for a combination seat at this time which is a forward facing only seat that initially continues to use a 5 point harness up to 65 lbs and 49 inch limit but then transitions into a high back belted booster seat. This would replace the convertible car seats forward facing option.

4️⃣ Booster seat — once they outgrow the convertible seat or limits for a combination seat for the 5 point harness but are not ready for a seat belt only option. We recommend a high back belted booster over a backless booster as they provide side-impact protection and head and neck support. Staying in a booster seat until at least 57 inches which is typically 10-12 years old.

5️⃣ Seat belt alone — above 57 inches. This is when seat belts typically fit correctly which means the shoulder belt lies across the middle of the chest and shoulder, not the neck/throat. The lap belt is low and snug across the upper thighs and not the stomach and your kiddo sits with their back against the vehicles seat with their knees bent over the edge. And remember: kids should ride in the back seat until at least age 13, regardless.

💡 The most important rule: it’s about your CHILD’S HEIGHT AND WEIGHT and YOUR SPECIFIC CAR SEAT LIMITS — not just their age. When in doubt, keep them in the more protective seat a little longer.

Respiratory season is almost here! One of the best ways to help keep your little ones healthy this fall and winter is staying current on Flu, Covid and RSV vaccines.

We have appointments available Monday through Friday at both offices, plus additional Saturday Flu and COVID clinics from 8:30–12:30. Central Park office dates are 9/26, 10/10, 10/17, and 10/24; Pearl Street’s date is 11/7. No RSV vaccines will be administered during these Saturday Clinics.

The whole family is welcome to get Flu and COVID vaccines with us — just note that each family member needs their own individual appointment. You can book through our website or your MyChart account.

The influenza vaccine is recommended for all children 6 months and older. We do offer the nasal spray flu vaccine, but it’s only available for ages 2–49, and only for those with no history of asthma, who aren’t currently pregnant, and aren’t immunocompromised.

The COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for all children ages 6–23 months. It’s also recommended for children over 2 who are at high risk for severe COVID-19, and is available for any family who would like their child vaccinated.

RSV immunization is recommended for all infants under 8 months old who are entering their first RSV season — unless the pregnant parent received the RSV immunization during pregnancy at least 14 days before delivery. There are expanded guidelines for high-risk infants and children ages 8–19 months, who should be immunized during their second RSV season.

Please reach out to your primary provider if you think your child may qualify for additional RSV protection.

Back-to-school szn = bedtime szn. 😴📚

Sleep is the foundation for the day ahead and directly impacts your child’s ability to focus, their mood, and can affect their immune health this fall—which makes it one of the most important back-to-school habits to focus on.

Swipe for what current pediatric sleep guidelines recommend, and a few healthy habits to help get there.

If you have questions or concerns about your child’s sleep — book a visit to discuss — we’re here all school year. 🍎
