Join the Herb Society of America’s Rocky Mountain Unit at Hudson Gardens on select Wednesday mornings (one each month) this summer for our "Meet the Herb Gardener” event from 9:00 to 10:30am. We would love to show you our herb garden and answer any herb questions you may have. We have various themed garden beds including Tea Herbs, Medicinal Herbs, Native Herbs, Potpourri Herbs, Culinary Herbs, and Mediterranean Herbs.

I’ve been craving this abundance of wild spring greens for a long time! Pink purslane leaves, garlic mustard, wild garlic… such an abundance now. And the trees also starting to join in with gifts of young lime leaves, wych elm flowers, the first lemony beech leaves. Eaten with fresh St George’s mushrooms and salmon. Such a joy!

Have you visited The Herb Society of America's Rocky Mountain Unit's demonstration garden? We recently were certified in the HSA's Green Bridges program for our Colorado native herb bed. Come see our beautiful demonstration Herb Garden at Hudson Gardens & Event Center in Littleton, Colorado. It's a bit tucked in the southwest corner of the Hudson Gardens, the map in the photos shows it's location (it's next to a greenhouse/hoop house). It's fabulous and has a ton of different herbs to see growing. Hudson Gardens, by the way, is open and free to the public! It's quite a large space, so it's a great place to visit if you want a nice walk in green spaces and gardens.

The Herb Society of America's "Green Bridges" program encourages home and community gardeners to help support natural areas by creating safe passage to native plants and pollinators. We also have a virtual Herb Book Club, local supper club, garden tours, and other herb-related events throughout the year.

Growing ginger in a pot is as easy as ABC. You will also have the ability to harvest fresh ginger on demand as ginger are a great source of antioxidant and antimicrobial properties which can contribute to overall well-being.

Method of planting ginger in a pot:

1: Firstly, start with a piece of fresh ginger root that has "eyes" or growth buds.

2. Get a flower pot or container that is at about 12 inches deep and wide with drainage holes underneath.

3. Get a manure or a well-draining potting mix.

4: Go ahead and plant the ginger rhizome with the eyes facing up, about 2 inches deep.

5: Plenty sunshine and warmth is very important for growth but try and avoid direct, intense sunlight.

6: water everyday but make sure the soil is moist but not soggy and you can add organic fertiliser every six to eight weeks.

Note::

If you live in cold countries , you don’t want your ginger to rot so you have to bring the pot indoors and place them close to windows to get direct sunlight if possible.
