It's time to look at inversions.

This quarter focuses on building upper body strength, and yoga does this mostly with inversions. We flip the body upside down to ask the arms to support and give the legs freedom to either rest or challenge our core strength.

Either in-person at my studio space or livestream from the comfort of your own home, join me for some therapeutic yoga. This September workshop focuses on how you can use core strength, breathing techniques and stable legs to build upper body strength and resilience. You can even decompress your spine along the way! You can be assured of a bit of laughter and nonsense, and also some awesome companionship with like-minded yoga people.

Get ready to "Take Yoga Upside Down"! This workshop is all about flipping your perspective—literally. We’ll dive into some basic inversions like Downward Facing Dog, Legs Up the Wall, and Supported Shoulderstand, plus we’ll tackle the fun stuff like headstands, handstands, and forearm stands, with plenty of support, of course. We’ll chat about why inversions are awesome, how to practice them at any fitness level, and even how to use everyday stuff from your home as props. And hey, knowing how to get into an inversion is cool, but knowing how to get out safely is just as important! Get ready for some anatomy insights, breathing techniques, yoga nidra, and a good dose of laughter. Let’s turn things upside down together!

Simple and Fun Online Courses

Ever find yourself feeling emotionally and mentally stuck, unsure of what to do next? Maybe you’re dealing with that vague sense of anxiety that keeps you from taking action or traps you in overthinking. Believe me, I’ve been there more times than I can count, and I’ve said those same words to myself over and over.

After more than ten years of wrestling with these feelings, I finally put together an online program focused on the Yamas and Niyamas—the first two steps on Patanjali’s Royal Yoga path, which are foundational in yoga and the Yoga Sutras that we all learn about early on.

Deb Adele’s book from 2009 (yep, that’s right, Amazon says so) breaks down these steps into twelve months of short reading assignments and weekly philosophical questions. This book has been a game-changer for me, helping me become more decisive and action-oriented. Working through it with a group of fellow yoga teachers gave me incredible insights and made me realize I’m not alone in my struggles. It even helped me work through some deep-seated shame and guilt, with a little help from some great therapists along the way.

I’ve turned this material into short, weekly videos to support you as you start or continue your journey to get unstuck, handle anxiety, and make confident decisions. I really recommend doing this program with your “logical family”—those people in your life who support you fully and let you be your most authentic self. And hey, I’m here to be part of that support network. Think of me as your accountability partner, gently nudging you to check in weekly and stay on track, even when life throws its usual curveballs.

You can also register below for a 30-day workshop if you'd prefer a quicker study.

It's a year long philosophy course in one short month. Get ready, as it's a lot of material. I'd suggest getting a few friends to do it with you, as it's so much better with support and encouragement! You'll need Deb Adele's The Yamas and Niyamas book, which is available through my website, at my office or online and at a number of local book shops. Plan for about 20-30 minutes daily for the reading homework, the questions for exploration and the journaling required.

It's all about integrating your core work!
Why do you think that was the focus for the last three months?

We've been building up to a class just on breathing, as it ties into all the core work we've been doing for an entire quarter in these Self Care Saturday workshops. There is actually method to my madness, I know it's wild to consider!

Either in-person at my studio space or livestream from the comfort of your own home, join me for some therapeutic yoga and pranayama. This August workshop focuses on how you can use breathing techniques and core work to reduce stress, balance your thoughts, and even reduce back and pelvic pain. You can be assured of a bit of laughter and nonsense, and also some awesome companionship with like-minded yoga people.

Are you ready for "Yoga for Better Breathing”? In this workshop, we're diving into the nitty-gritty of how your circulatory and respiratory systems work. We’ll go through a therapeutic yoga practice that targets the front, sides, and back of your torso to help you breathe easier. We’ll also explore different breathing techniques designed to cut down stress and anxiety. Plus, we’ll connect the dots between our emotions and our breath with heart-opening poses and backbends. If you’re dealing with asthma, anxiety, blood pressure issues, stress, or even lingering effects from something like the flu or COVID-19, this workshop is tailored just for you. So, come ready to breathe better and feel great!

How do you know what's going on?

Most of us don't really know we're in fight, flight or freeze for so much of our day. We wonder why we wake up tired, why we're bloated, and why our nerves feel frayed so much of the time.

Tie this into last quarter's newsletter on how we breathe, and we get a glimpse of some ways to know if we're stuck in a sympathetic nervous system cycle. Some questions to ask yourself. Do you feel rested when you wake up? Is your digestion regular and consistent? Do you feel like you have enough space in your workday to finish all your tasks? Does your time off feel restful and rejuvenating?

Most of us will answer no to these questions, so it's a good sign we're stressed out. Welcome to being human, right?

Here's the good news. If you feel like your nervous system is frayed and you're always in the sympathetic cycle with little time for rest, it only takes five minutes to make some change. A lot of us are great at making the excuse that five minutes won't change anything, so why even start! That's a great way to convince yourself that perfection is the goal. Serious question, how's that working out for you so far? Most folks will sheepishly admit it's not working at all, but it's been a constant companion preventing any change from happening.

You are the biggest single factor in your health care. Read that again please.

You can go to any number of healers, doctors, therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, herbalists, energy workers, massage therapists, yoga therapists, shaman, medicine women, etc. but if you're not committed to your own consistent practice, you'll notice yourself repeating the same story over and over again. It will feel like a broken record eventually.

So if you're tired of being tired, bloated from feeling bloated and frayed from being frayed, push yourself to commit to your own small steps daily.

What sort of steps, you ask? Meditation, yoga, breathing, calisthenics, laughing, dancing, journaling, connecting with friends and family, walking, smiling, feeling and listening to your own heartbeat, and even practicing gratitude. Does this mean you're not ever going to feel difficulties again? Nope, not at all, as that's a constant over the course of our lives. You'll be more skillful at navigating between fight, flight, freeze and rest, digest, recover.

Your body can't really heal if it spends most of the time in the sympathetic nervous system. You've got to take some time to slow down if you want to progress. You have to become very practiced at knowing where your nervous system is and how best to work with it. You're a team, your mind, your nerves, your skeleton, your organs, your muscles, and your skin. Teamwork makes the dream work, or so I've heard.

That's where I can come in, helping you connect with your own internal team. It's my job to bring about some rest in your day, and I can do that with massage, yoga, breathing, meditation, mindfulness, awareness and Ayurveda, as well as some humor from time to time. You get to pick which of these works in the moment for you, and add it to your calendar between visits. Again, you are the biggest single factor in your health care.

So who inspires you to take a moment for yourself? Who can help you be more accountable to yourself in a truly authentic way? I triple dog dare you to take some time this month to dig into this and notice what comes up!

"I'm only here for Savasana" - best yoga quote ever (and best way to take some time in your parasympathetic nervous system).

Learn about your pelvic floor online from the comfort of your own home

Hey guys, are you or someone you know dealing with pelvic floor issues like erectile dysfunction, colon or testicular cancer, prostate problems, fissures, or even anxiety and depression? I totally get it—it’s awkward and uncomfortable to talk about these things with friends, family, or even medical professionals. But here’s the deal: one of the best ways to tackle these issues is by understanding what our pelvic floor actually does.

I’ve put together a four-week, self-paced online course specifically for men dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction and looking for options beyond surgery. This course is packed with over 12 interviews featuring health care pros who specialize in helping you move better, feel better, and yes, even have better s*x. We’ll dive into topics like low testosterone, hernias, Peyronie’s Disease, constipation, vulnerability, intimacy, and more. Each week includes three interviews, practical exercises you can start using right away, homework, and handouts.

Why am I so passionate about this? Well, I’ve had two hernias myself and discovered that with the right diet, exercise, therapy, and education, I could manage and even heal them. Learning to listen to my body’s signals from my lower back, abdomen, digestion, and blood pressure made a huge difference in how I care for myself. I found some fantastic practitioners along the way and I’m excited to share their insights with you.

You don’t have to suffer in silence or shame. The best part? You can access all these videos from the comfort of your home, whenever you need them, to get the support and information you need to start feeling and moving better.
