THE BETTER QUESTION: Is Your Brain Starving?

More isn’t always better.

In this conversation, Dr. Erika and Laurie Hammer explore an important question about nutrition:
Can your body actually use what you’re giving it?

Nutrients don’t always work alone.

Your body may need other nutrients and cofactors to support their utilization.

So simply taking more of one nutrient may not address the bigger picture.

Instead of asking:
❌ “How much more should I take?”
Ask:
✅ “What does my body need to actually use this?”

And perhaps most importantly:
🧠 “Is my brain getting what it needs?”

If you’re making healthy changes but still struggling to see the progress you expected, it may be time to look at the bigger picture.

What if you’re trying to heal too fast?

Healing isn’t always about going deeper, sooner.

When we design a program, we’re creating a healing cycle with a clear starting point, midpoint, and endpoint.

That means considering:
✔️ Where your body is starting
✔️ What support is needed at each stage
✔️ When it’s appropriate to move forward
✔️ How to build a strong foundation before going deeper

Your body has a brilliant design. The goal is to work with that design, not against it.

One step. One phase. One healing cycle at a time.

Your body was designed to heal, but healing has an order.

When we experience a symptom, it’s natural to want to get rid of it as quickly as possible.

But what if the symptom is only part of the bigger picture?
The body has an incredible capacity to adapt and repair.

Supporting that process may mean paying attention to what the body needs, when it needs it, and what should come first.

Instead of only asking:
“Why am I having this symptom?”

Consider asking:
“What does my body need right now to keep moving forward?”

🎙️ In this conversation, I explore why healing isn’t about rushing the process. It’s about understanding the body and supporting it in the right sequence, with the right things, at the right time, and in the right amounts.

Healing is rarely a linear process.

In clinical practice, progress often happens in phases. A patient may improve in one area while another layer of the case becomes more apparent over time.

This is one of the reasons we look at healing as an ongoing process rather than a single intervention or endpoint.

At The Resiliency Method®, the goal is to continue evaluating what the body is communicating at each stage and adjust the approach accordingly.

For practitioners, this can be an important reminder that meaningful progress may require patience, reassessment, and multiple cycles of support.

True healing isn’t simply about eliminating the problem.

It’s about understanding what the body needs to restore, rebuild, and heal.

As practitioners, we’re often looking for the next thing to address. But lasting progress may require a different question:

What does this person’s body actually need right now?

Sometimes the answer isn’t another intervention. It may be support, restoration, or a better understanding of the patterns happening beneath the surface.

The Resiliency Method® looks at healing through a whole-person lens, helping practitioners think beyond simply addressing the problem.

“You got a pulse. You got a parasite.”

Okay, maybe it’s not quite that simple but this conversation raises an interesting point about how difficult it can be to identify certain infections through testing alone.

When testing relies on a stool sample, what happens if the organism simply isn’t present in that particular sample?

This clip explores why diagnosing parasites can be more complicated than people might think and why understanding the limitations of testing matters.

When we talk about healing, it is easy to focus on what needs to be removed.

But what about what the body needs to rebuild?

Whole food supplements provide concentrated nutrients that can help supply the building blocks the body needs during the restorative phase of healing.

A depleted body does not always need more elimination. Sometimes, it needs nourishment, support, and the right materials to restore its function.

True healing means looking at the whole picture and asking not only, “What needs to go?” but also, “What does the body need to rebuild?”

That is the foundation of a more restorative approach to healing.

What does your body need to restore, rebuild, and heal?

What does your body need to heal?

Sometimes, the answer isn’t about doing more or trying another approach.

Addressing a concern can be important, but healing can also mean restoring, rebuilding, and supporting the whole person.

Your history, individual patterns, and unique needs matter.

Instead of asking, “What else should I address?”

Ask:

What does my body actually need to heal?

I shared 4 key takeaways in the comments.

Have you ever wondered if the very thing that makes you a high performer could also be contributing to your challenges with recovery?

High performers often have an incredible capacity to process information quickly, multitask, stay alert, and respond to whatever comes their way.

Those qualities can be strengths.

But when the nervous system is constantly operating in a “ready” state, the body may have a harder time shifting into rest and recovery.

I know this profile well because I’m part of it, too.

This is why I believe we need to look beyond productivity and ask a different question:

Can your nervous system actually shift out of high alert when you need it to?

Sometimes healing isn’t about doing more. It’s about helping the body learn that it’s safe enough to slow down.

Is an elimination-focused approach really the complete picture of healing?

A lot of wellness protocols focus on identifying what might be contributing to a problem and then trying to remove it:

Target the parasites.
Address the bacteria.
Eliminate the fungus.
Bind the heavy metals.
Cleanse the liver.
Purge the gut.

But what if there’s another side to the conversation?

What if true healing isn't just about what we remove, but also about what we do afterward?

In this podcast, we’re challenging an elimination-first mindset and exploring a more complete and thoughtful way of thinking about healing.

👇 I put 4 key takeaways in the comments.

Read through them and then tell me:

Do you think wellness sometimes focuses too much on removing problems and not enough on supporting restoration?
